04 206 GTi Hdi Project
-> Project Cars

#1: 04 206 GTi Hdi Project Author: s3tre2003, Location: Cornwall PostPosted: Fri Dec 12, 2014 6:24 am
    ----
So after having 7 206's before ranging from 1.4, 1.0 HDi's to GTi's and 2 GTi 180's, i moved away from them and bought myself a 207 GT HDi later followed by 1 207 GTi

The 207 GTi is still my main project but bought a 208 e-Hdi 115 for using daily for work.

Browsing around what was for sale in the area as i had a 2.0 Dturbo 206 i was debating selling this popped up. It was advertised at £600. So we went to have a look to see how bad the damage was. To my surprise most of the repair work had already been done. The 2 bits behind the lights had been replaced, slam panel, headlights etc.. and the car never had any structural damage.

We agreed that they would accept £400 for it and a few days later we picked it up. This is how it was when we collcted it:

The car was structurally sound but the bonnet etc.. had just been put on the car and not aligned or anything. Also a foglight was missing and the headlights not working. The car has Sat Nav along with all SP extras etc.. (before the accident it had morrettes on it which was a shame they got damaged). Also had a read through the history, to our surprise it has had a new turbo fitted 10k ago, new rear beam, new exhaust and a new DPF fitted (more on that later!)

Anyway so got it home and had a good look around it, the car cudn't of been cleaned for years!

It was like this all over:

So apart it all came and had a good clean out:

It has SP rear lights fitted that were cracked and looked awful so picked up a set of Pashe 2 rears, a red foglight and brake light to replace all the chrome on the rear

Then it was onto the front and fixing the lights and fog light:

All stripped down to check what had been repaired was done correctly:

All seemed ok.. also the headlights still had the morrette adapters on so removed them and connected them all up

The foglight had ripped the brackets off the bumper so fibreglassed them back on and popped in another foglight

Popped it all back together:

and some of the broken parts:

So all was well, until the EML light came on and Depollution System faulty appeared.

Read the codes..one was glow plugs. No biggy as the car was going to have a full service. The other was a short to earth on the DPF temp sensor, a bit of digging and we found the sensor had been cut and rejoined. Checked the cbales reset the codes and all was fine, until you hit a bump and im guessing one of the cables moves.

The car is off for a visit to pro steve on the 19th for DPF removal and a stage 1 map so that should sort that issue

The car is now all one colour but havn't got any pics yet..will get some soon.

All in this car should owe us around £800 all sorted so not a bad buy i don't think Very Happy

Be very wary when changing the glow plug as mine snapped off in the head and not the metal part either, the ceramic end. It's still in there however, but it's a really crap design.

I have been told that this engine doesn't utilise the glow plugs unless it's -15 so i wouldn't worry about changing them. Wish I had known that before I attempted one of mine.

Yea i shal pop it up to a mates garage and get him to swap them over quickly!

Yea its only a warning about them logged on the ecu, they are needed for the regen process too but wont need them for that once the DPF is gone Very Happy

Nice to see the car going to a good home. I have to ask you though what is it about 206s that saw you own 7? Do you have any pics of the 208? Smile
