#1: 180 ticking Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sun Dec 28, 2014 1:32 pm ---- Hey all, I have just bought a 180 yesterday. But I am a bit worried , the car drives fine, but when the car is running but stationary , there is a ticking noise that happens about once every 30 seconds. It sounds like its coming from the bottom of the engine bay. But I have no idea what it could be , any ideas ???
Thanks

Possibly exhaust or heat shield expansion.
Possibly something to do with the aircon clutch engaging/disengaging
Possibly a relay clicking.
Is it audible when you are sat inside the car? Windows up?
Is it happening when hot/cold/all the time?
Engine at idle/fast idle?
Front/back/left/right of engine bay?
#4: Re: 180 ticking Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Mon Dec 29, 2014 7:22 am ---- Its coming from bottom left of the engine, if your facing the front of the car.
only happens when its at idle, when it ticks, the idle drops a fraction, then it ticks again and the idle returns to its normal position.
Happens all the time regardless if its hot or cold. Can be heard in the car slightly but much louder when outside the car.
This is quite a loud tick, nothing a relay could produce imo.
Dont think its the heat shield or exhaust warming up as said happens when its cold and when its hot.
My thoughts are the a/c clutch? is this located at the bottom left part of the engine bay, towards the front grill??

Both of mine did have quite a loud "click" and slight drop in rpm maybe mine were a bit more worn than yours who knows but still worth a try to see if it stops the clicking lisa206 is hearing.

#9: Re: 180 ticking Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Mon Dec 29, 2014 1:27 pm ---- I have tried turning the a/c off and when I turn it off , I don't hear the ticking but when its on I do , so its obviously the a/c causing it to tick :/
