#1: Anyone had issues with lower arms Author: cat41, Posted: Wed Jan 07, 2015 4:28 pm ---- My gt has just had new shocks, new strut mounts, new track rod ends and 1 antiroll linkage.
Now i,m not sure why but the lower arm pins wont come out of the bottom of the hub.
I can see the pins sit at an slight angel so wont come out, me and my friend macanic had to remove the lower arms from the sub frame, the lower arms look slightly too long but they are the right ones, when we fitted the lower arms a few months back it took 3 of us to fit them, 1 had to try and compress the shock the other pushing the arm down with the 3rd locating the pin.
Is this peugeot gone nuts and not made something right or are we doing something wrong,
fitting the shocks is a 2 to 3 hour job but today it took 7 hours, loads of jamed parts, loads of heating bolts.

Same way fit it back in (two men's job)
The metal is so sturdy there, the pins sitting at an angle is just an illusion - they shouldn't be jammed/seized in, as shock strut gives in. If the arms are longer, you should get camber, and 4-wheel alignment should print it out (a must do after every arms change anyway)
If you didn't, your tyres should've gone bare on inside, if running at camber.

Quite normal. Try opening up the slot a tiny bit in the hub with a large screwdriver or cold chisel. I then wedge a long piece of 4x2 hardwood over the arm and under the edge of the floor and front bumper and stamp on it. Usually pops out.

GTis do have a slightly different arm: one of the main mountings is steel rather than two rubber ones.
You have to wiggle the ball-joint pin to almost line-up then it should slide in. Not easy as the new one is joining to be a lot stiffer. I use a ring spanner to get it as close to the angle as possible.
Using the same piece of 4x2 I hold the arm down and get the hub balanced over the ball-joint then it normally drops in.
Ideally I think you take the drive shaft out, but I've only had to do that once and that was when the balljoint broke and the car collapsed. The driveshaft had to be replaced as well.

You had three guys .. I do this alone. My biggest fear is messing up the CV joints as these are spring loaded inside.
Oh and that isn't Peugeot's only surprise for home mechanics ... try the cambelt!

have you undone the anti roll bar links?
for some reason they push the hub outwards which makes in difficult to drop the ball joints out.

I just put my foot on the wishbone now and push down. Any suspension work needs both front wheels off the ground or the drop links to the anti roll bar to be removed.

I used spring compressors & pull the shock out smack hub with hammer to crack it !
Put socket in lower arm /subframe to stop it moving up .
Then pull hub off lower arm tiewrap it up .
block of wood with a hole in to put steel bar inbetween to the 2 mounting stunds .chain up lower arm to bar & pull down .

got a breaker bar and about broke my foot jumping on it but it did pop out in the end.
