#1: 206 2009 does not start at first try but normally in second! Author: yz206 PostPosted: Fri Jan 09, 2015 10:13 am

Hi there,

My car is 206 from year 2009. Recently it does not start with first try and I have to try again which starts it with no problem and no logged fault by ecu.

Before everything, I wait for 30 seonds then after first try, it powered off completely like when switch is completely closed! then it light up and then I wait for 30 seconds and try again which starts it normally!

After these, If I power off it for short time, it does not have this problem for start again. But after longer time (I think when it's completely cold) the problem occures again!

It's engine oil, fuel pump and filter has been replaced by new ones.

Please help me to figure this problem out.

@Timon2210, Thank you so much for your reply.

I did not replace those for resolving this issue. I have replaced those in it's service period about 4 months ago at 75000km by company agent itself where I do not know which brand they used. The problem has been seen for about one recent week at 80000km. From 4 months ago, I just replace it's oil with Total 7000 about two weeks ago.

Yes, absolutely. what should I say about car please? it's sedan and it's age is about 5 years, now at 80000km. N6A (TU5) 1587cc engine, 4 cylenders and 16 valves.

I do not think it's related but between these days, it's ecu alert me only once with following error:
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
I powered of and wait for a little then started it with no problem!

I just have confuse with this question:
WHAT HAPPEN IN FIRST TRY WHICH CAUSES SUCCESSFULL SECOND TRY TO START ENGINE?! AND WHY ALL LIGHTS TURNED OF AFTER UNSUCCESSFULL FIRST START AND ITSELF LIGTH THEM ON AFTER AFEW SECONDS (exacly like I close and open switch)? and finally, WHY THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCURE BETWEEN SHORT TIME POWER OFFs/ONs AND COME BACK AFTER LONG TIME POWER OFF (e.g. some hours)?

Thanks in advance!

That means you have a faulty Fuel Level Sensor, replace it,and thing will be fine again, also it worth checking the plug under the back seat, where the fuel pump is.

Thanks again, I'll do these. Do you think the engine start problem is related to this sensor? May I know how might they are related? because I got the ECU's fault alert only once not with every start fail.

Thanks in advance!

The fuel level sensor is mounted in the fuel level sensor unit. The sensor detects a fuel level in the fuel tank and transmits a signal to the ECM (Engine Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module). It consists of two parts, one is mechanical float and the other side is variable resistor. Fuel level sensor output voltage changes depending on the movement of the fuel mechanical float

So if the sensor is faulty,it gives signal to the ECM that might not be enough fuel, and the fuel pump don't pump the quantity needed to start the engine from the first start.

I searched a lot for fuel level sensor place in 206 with no success. Could you please say me where is it? An image can be very useful. My car is sedan. (Search Google for 206 sedan images)

Thanks in advance!

Well the fuel level sensor place is in the Fuel Unit Sender in the fuel tank, where the the fuel pump is fitted,so you need to take the whole unit out,and it worth checking the plug before you take it out.

Thanks a lot. Check the plug for what? What should I look for?

Check the plug for rust or any wire damage
