#1: rear calipers not working how to service myself Author: cat41 PostPosted: Sun Jan 11, 2015 10:13 am

Hi all.

It's looking if the left rear caliper isn't working at all, with handbrake full on a can spin the wheel, also i,ve been out then put my hands on the discs, the rear left is stone cold, the rear right is warm.

I used to service my motorcycle brakes years back and i see the cars ones looking ok to sort.

Any tips on how to keep these calipers alive and kicking?

Its a 1999 gt

Got loads of fluid isn't it ? No split in brake line .
Take calipers off give clean around the pistons check they move ok ¬ stuck . . Check there is no air in ,or a blocked brake line or leaks.
rear right does stick a little on mine .
Left rear always seems weaker on handbrake (rally drifts ). handbrakes are weak on a 206 for sure .

A pair of service / exchange calipers.

The calipers if not looked after are a known weak spot.

The calliper need's replacing, the handbrake mechanism inside will be rusted up - common problem with this design of calliper if there not looked after correctly.

I have standard GTi rear calipers on the rally car, The cable handbrake just makes MOT standard with new discs and pads but the hydraulic H/B is very good. Locks up both rears every time...... but that's cheating Wink

Do that just bolt on mine and are able to be used with the handbrake, its far too much work now

I,ve just fixed the airbag issues, tomorrow its the rear calipers, i,ve strayed wd to help free up the stuck bolts, i stand a good chance in bringing them back from the dead, i used to service motobikes brakes and a cars not too dissimilar. I give it a go anyway.
