So I managed to write the car off (so I believe) on the way in to work this evening.

Slow moving traffic, in to the back of a nice brand spanking new range rover, as you can imagine high up range vs a low 206 and it looks like a tin can. Enough damage to not warrant the costs I suspect, oh well s**t happens its a car at the end of the day. I walked away fine with no damage, air bag didn't even go off it was that slow lol.

Chances are if it's a scrap yard job you may not see me again so big thanks to everyone on the site with all the help, learnt a lot about these 206's in the short time I've had it, thanks again and all the best.

I'll chuck a couple of photos up tomorrow when I can.

Sorry to hear about the car mate. But at at least you walked away from it without injury. Are you sure it'll be written off though considering it was a low speed collision?

Surely if it's a write off you could buy it back for next to nothing and then fix whatever is broke?

Some insurance companies don't allow customers to buy the car back as the insurance company will have done a long term deal with a salvage company to send all write off's there way.

Surprised I had no idea! Better check my insurer. That's rubbish really as it's pretty much admitting that the car can be fixed for less and sold on for profit.

UK car insurance is such a scam!

I'v just had a quick look on line and found a few bit's of info, 1st off it's worth discussing with you insurer and make sure you are talking to the right person, it seems you are the owner of the car until the insurer pays out so could discuss terms.

A second bit of info I found was from here,

www.pistonheads.com/ga...?t=1281768

Sounds like it's not a good idea to let the car out of you site Wink

An update.

The car is a write off as expected, not surprised really. A little bit of a shame considered the amount of work I had done to get the car to a lot better state than it was mechanically when I picked it up, but s**t happens. Picked up the mechanics report today of what needed doing and even sourcing some 2nd hand parts it still exceeded the % to call it a day.

For those interested this was the state it ended up in. 5-10mph impact in to the back of a 2014 Range Rover sport, airbag didn't deploy.

But every cloud has a silver lining... so they say anyway, and I'm now the rather happy owner or 2004 GTI 180 with only 36k on the clock.

It's nice to be back in a power range I'm far more used to. I'll put some more pictures up tomorrow after a day spent detailing

Airbags on multiplexed 206 wont deploy for such a low force impact.

It's a shame that the 1.4 is being written off but congrats on the 180! Especially one with such low miles on it. Can't wait to see some more pics of it. Got any plans for it?

Any ideas on what speed is needed for airbag deployment out of pure interest?

Thanks though guys, tbh wasn't even looking for another pug or anything French for that matter, was actually looking for a Japanese import, but stumbled on this by chance and with the low mileage, full service history and all advisory's from the previous MOT had been fixed I couldn't resist to take a look, so a 200 mile round trip later I own a 180 Laughing

As for mods, nothing at the moment, I honestly can't warrant it with it being so clean and tidy. If anything I'll pick up another set of the same rear lights I had on the previous 206 but other than that, nothing!

Shame about the car mate, the airbags wont deploy unless your doing around 30 mph or unless the airbag controller thinks the impacts severe
enough. At least you weren't hurt and you've sorted a replacement out all ready. Sad

Very possible but you have to bare in mind the value of 2003 1.4 8v with +80k on the clock isn't worth very much in today's market.

Then there is the hassle of going through VOSA to have it all checked once repaired. It's a lot of time and effort for an 8v, plus I need a daily so it's just simply time I don't have.

Still sorry to hear about your 1.4 mate, but good to hear about the 180!

Are you taking any bits off the 1.4 at all? As i would be inclined to! Spesh the rear lights as they are lovely

I'm gonna see if I can swap the rear lights over. Swapping just to keep them happy really. Gotta go collect a few remaining personals I forgot about do will enquire then if they allow me to do so!
