#1: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2015 1:05 pm ---- Hi all. Been an eventful evening for me. On my drive home my car felt hideously underpowered and then as I was on the Middle of a double mini roundabout the cambelt snapped. Biggest kicker is that my car was scheduled in for a service on Tuesday! ****!! So, any Mechanics in the Somerset area who could do something on the drive for me? Got it recovered to a friends place for a small fee.

#4: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2015 2:52 pm ---- Yeah 1.4 8v petrol.
#5: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sat Jan 24, 2015 3:01 pm ---- Give youref the weekend and the right tools.
#6: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2015 3:07 pm ---- Afraid I would have no idea what I'm doing!
#7: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: 20Drift, Posted: Sat Jan 24, 2015 6:11 pm ---- Get a Haynes manual and some teabags, then you're all set!
#8: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sun Jan 25, 2015 1:44 am ---- More worried about if my valves are buggered or timing is off. Either way doubt I can re-time it myself. Never done anything mechanical short of topping up the oil or changing the bulbs.

#10: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jan 25, 2015 2:57 am ---- Are you sure it's snapped?
#11: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sun Jan 25, 2015 3:20 am ---- Not entirely sure. Got my girlfriends bother coming over today to see if the cam belt is snapped, but if it is, I'll sell it. If not, then hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with it. Don't really wanna pay another £50 to get it recovered to a garage and then parts & labour if the cambelt is definitely snapped.

Lots of the people who buy parts there will be mechanics who do the type of work you want done.
#13: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sun Jan 25, 2015 4:20 am ---- Until you've looked don't assume its snapped. If it was under powered before sounds like it could be something else
#14: Re: Cambelt snapped on drive home Author: mattarnster, Posted: Sun Jan 25, 2015 5:13 am ---- Haha you're right. Cambelt is fine. Even spins around and everything inside the engine is spinning. So, suspected electrical fault? Has anyone in Somerset got a code reader?
