#1: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Mon Mar 09, 2015 12:43 pm ---- Hey everyone,
Finally found a forum that looks good.
Right basically in a nutshell, I've had my 206 since May 2014 and only done 20 miles in it since actually purchasing it due to me only passin my test 1 month ago.
Since November, I have been experiencing difficulties with the cars electronics. The ABS, Airbag & engine warning lights are all on. Alongside this my speedometer does not work. (Speedo used to work and then drop, not doesn't work at all).
Now the original battery was still in the car when I bought it, it completely died as the car was just sat outside my home for months. I jump started it and then noticed the ABS light come on followed by then the other warning lights.
Now I did take it to the garage in November and have the warning lights cleared hoping it was just because the battery went flat, once they cleared it, warning lights just come back on. I then just treated my Pug with a new battery. Reset the warning lights again and still come back on.
The car seems to drive relatively well with no actual problems. Juggers a little I've noticed when in a low gear but possibly maybe because gear is To low for speed...
Taken it garage today to have a diagnostics done on it and they haven't been able to find the problem with just having it run on their systems. He asked me if anything has happened when removing or replacing battery.
Not that I know of...
Does anyone have any ideas what is up with it? It's "driving" me nuts...
Thanks
Rob

I'm going to go ahead and assume you're not aware of the correct procedures for shutting down the BSI or rebooting which should of been taken before changining the battery and if you undertake any electrical work?
Being new to 206's I would give this a read when you get 5mins, will help you out in the future no doubt www.206info.co.uk/Foru...nners.html
#3: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Mon Mar 09, 2015 7:24 pm ---- Thank you for your response.
That thread looks very useful and certainly something worth referring too.
I only jump started it after the battery went dead flat having been sat there for 4 months and not been used once. It was only after jumping did The warning lights come on.
The battery was changed at a Kwikfit not by myself.
I am worried perhaps it was done wrong. I'm concerned I will have to pay out an awful lot to fix it.
What are the best and worse possible scenario's if the battery was removed incorrectly?
Rob.
#4: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: Vexs, Location: LondonPosted: Mon Mar 09, 2015 8:23 pm ---- Worst case scenario is a £600 bill from Peugeot to fix the issue of the BSI.
Best case scenario, and what I would do first would be to have any fault codes cleared and then shut down/reboot the BSI following the correct procedure and hope that the issues you've had are blips as a result of it not being done correctly.
If the car continues to log faults then obviously you would need to address each issue accordingly.
I would also recommend using a garage that has Peugeot Planet (PP2000) code reader instead of generic code reader.
#5: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Tue Mar 10, 2015 1:13 pm ---- Just got a phone call from the garage that has my car, the man said he has tested everything. He does not know why the ABS has failed.
He said the ABS gets very hot when the engine is on.
I asked him if replacing the unit will solve the problem, he said that he could not find anything else it could be.
Tomorrow morning he will be phoning me once he has prices for me before the go ahead.
I sort of joked with him saying "This isn't something that will cost me more than the car is worth is it". He replied with "probably (chuckling)".
He said it could cost between £400-£500. He said he needs to contact the dealership and price it.
Do they really cost that's much?
I'm ever so upset right now.
#6: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: Vexs, Location: LondonPosted: Tue Mar 10, 2015 3:45 pm ---- The odd 206 has been known to have issues with the ABS sensors (my old 8v started to).
If the sensors are the issue I don't believe it would be £400-£500 to fix the issue.
The only time it could possibly be close to that quote would be if the ABS ECU needed replacing and even then that could be on the high side as a new unit would only be £250-£300 but I have no idea on how labour intensive the job is.
My own knowledge with ABS system itself is limited at best to be honest but, I would still get it hooked up to PP2000 as I dont believe the generic code readers are able to identify the ABS ECU faults? (dont quote me on that though) & secondly I would get a second quote on repair costs, possibly a second opinion on if it's the ECU itself or just the sensors.

Let me get this straight, the battery hasnt been replaced? Or has it with a KNOWN proven good one?
What are the fault codes? The ones in every ECU, i advise not to do a single thing till you have this info!
Let me know when you can
#8: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: tRiCk, Location: MitchamPosted: Tue Mar 10, 2015 4:57 pm ---- No way should you spend £500 on a part for a 206 there are way too many being broken on eBay. What are the faults that you have erased?
#9: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Tue Mar 10, 2015 8:32 pm ---- I have not asked for the fault codes yet, am I able to retrieve these codes from the garage, seeing as I am already paying him for the diagnostics.
When the original battery went flat it was only then did all the warning lights come up. I jump started the car and took it to Kwikfit. They put in a new battery. (I don't know what brand of battery it is).
Warning lights have not gone since then.
Well this guy at the garage is convinced that the ABS unit itself will need replacing as he is saying the ABS is not communicating with the 206 at all.
I really wish I knew more about what is happening.
He told me he will have prices for me in about 10 hours... I will keep you updated on the prices he gives me. I'm extremely worried about labour prices, are they generally quite expensive?

#11: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: ukskater01, Location: sutton surrey/welwyn garden cityPosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:44 am ---- Find out the fault codes or tell him to forget it and bring the car to one of us with Peugeot planet
#12: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 7:40 am ---- Just phoned me and quoted me at £1125 for a new ABS unit & labour & diagnostics.
I told him I'm picking the car up, paying him for te diagnostics and getting fault codes.

Holy s**t that's shocking!
#14: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: JordHaze, Location: WarwickshirePosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 8:11 am ---- That's horrendous! Where abouts are you Rob?
#15: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:35 am ---- At £790 for the hydro block and £500 for the box of tricks, probably isn't a bad quote. Problem is that they are chucking parts at it without knowing what the problem is.
Has the mechanic considered that his machine might not be communicating with the car because it's some sort of generic crap?
#16: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 10:21 am ---- RobStar: you need to tell us where you are located. Someone here may be close who can give you genuine support and read your car with PP (Peugeot Planet) 2000. Anything less is wasting time, though when you do get it back go through the BSI shut down and reset procedure. That may help though I am not sure if the codes you have need to be reset first. Nothing lost trying though.
In future if you get someone working on your car start by asking them to describe BSI procedure; not just say yes they know it. That is a reasonable indication that they know what they are doing.
#17: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Wed Mar 11, 2015 12:02 pm ---- Just collected my car and here are the fault codes I got from him. (He didn't seem very prepared to give me the codes and at first said "ow, I will need to do another diagnostic if you want the codes" to which I replied "Well didnt you have the current codes already written down...". Long story cut short, he gave me them.
1- Engine codes.
UO415 : No vehicle speed information transmitted by the ABS/ESP ECU (No Signal)
2- Airbag Codes.
P1042 : vehicle speed information not defined
P106F : passengers airbag deactivation. Not defined.
P1A5O : Supply voltage not defined.
3- Body Control codes
Communication fault with the ABS or ESP (Permanant fault)
4- ABS Codes
NO COMMUNICATION.
That is everything word by word written on the sheet of paper he gave me.
Hope that helps.
My car is a -

If you need a new abs ecu you can go second hand. It does not require coding and can be separated from the hydraulic block easily
#19: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: JordHaze, Location: WarwickshirePosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 4:18 am ---- I'm about a half hour drive to Coventry, once you get it fixed I can clear the codes for you if you want?
#20: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 6:15 am ---- I love my 206 but even second hand & labour will cost me £600. The guy in the garage said that he can't just stick in a second hand ABS unit and it will need coding so he wouldn't do it for me.
I only paid £1300 for the car, having replaced the batter for £90 and put a new lock on the drivers side for £120, with that and the fix of the ABS issue I will have paid £2100 for the car. It's at this stage I need to consider where I draw the line on outrageous payments...
I'm not driving it about much because it has no speedometer. Part of me thinks this car is now just going to be a part exchange for a new car.
I love the 206 so much.
But so upset it's costing me almost as much as I paid for it.

#21: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 6:24 am ---- This really needs a scan with Peugeot Planet before any more parts are thrown at it or money spent.
#22: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 9:02 am ---- The garage was using an rather old MODIS model which he told me about. He said that there is nothing wrong with the MODIS and it will essentially do exactly the same as the PP.
#23: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: JordHaze, Location: WarwickshirePosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 9:24 am ---- Definitely won't do the same as PP2000. It will have some features, but won't do everything. Don't listen to the guy
#24: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 2:20 pm ---- That is complete load of b******s! I work for peugeot as a diag tech and can tell you any 206 abs ecu without esp would fit and work!
I probably have one kicking about. Has it checked all the feeds? As it could be as simple as a fuse blown! Or a failed bm34!
#25: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 5:46 pm ---- I don't think he check feeds correctly, otherwise he wouldn't have gave me the "I have know idea why this has happened" story.
I've been very put off by independent garages now and even considered drawing the line with diagnostics I've had done on the car.
I really appreciate everyone's advice and help, in fact if it wasn't for you guys I probably wouldn't of even got the codes because I wouldn't of known I was allowed to have them.
The garage I went has certainly felt like a hell garage story I avoided...
#26: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: Oafie, Location: Glyn CeiriogPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:20 pm ---- Hi mate, I've got an abs ecu you can have for free, not sure if it's the same one as yours,
i'll be scrapping the car over the weekend so I don't mind taking it off before it goes,
perhaps Addaz or Mr BSI would know if it will fit.
My car is a 2004 1.4 with drums on the back, don't know if it makes any difference but the abs worked fine and it was probably the only thing on the car that hasn't gone wrong in the last 12 months that I've owned it lol.
let me know if you want it and i'll take it off on Saturday.
Ian.
#27: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: tRiCk, Location: MitchamPosted: Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:49 pm ---- Addaz is correct coding will not be needed if you use an abs Ecu & pump from another 206 that is of same year to be safe. Get the numbers off your part an type it into ebay, use your handbook to check the fuses for the abs.
#28: Re: 206 - 06 Plate - Warning lights on & speedometer not working Author: RobStar, Location: CoventryPosted: Sat Mar 14, 2015 8:11 pm ---- With everything that has happened to my car and with the countless diagnostics and the countless amount of garages I have take it too I've decided that paying for it to get back on the road as finally out-weighed the value of the actual car.
I've had to replace lots on it and now have come to a point where I need to look at wether it is now worth it financially.
The 206 is such a good drive and by far has been one of the most reliable cars I've drove including the Citroen C3 and Mini Cooper. Really love the easy ha doing that the 206 offers. I've decided to part exchange my 206 for a new car.
I can't thank you guys enough for the help you have all offered. I've learnt and awful lots not only about Peugeot but cars in general.
