#1: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:29 pm ---- Can ayone identify this plug? Car is a 2002 02 reg 206cc 2.0 manual with auto aircon and ABS
Swapped my broken battery box today and discovered not only acid all over the gearbox and an empty battery cell (but battery still working?) but this plug skulking away down the side of the battery box and nothing likely for it to plug into.
Is it a spare?
Cheers

#3: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:43 pm ---- Thanks for the quick reply. It is multiplexed and the alarm is plugged in, I can see it hiding behind a metal bracket just under the scuttle panel, dont know about the fuel cut off switch though.

Correct.
BSI unit controls the fuel cut off function on multiplexed 206.
#5: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:52 pm ---- Also got a non functioning speedo too, have bought a pp2000 device off ebay when i got this car after reading so many horror stories and the car has fared pretty well upto yet code wise. I've got speed sensor short circuited to earth and power steering stop information - coherence.
Have looked at the wiring that i can see and found nothing wrong but Im guessing that the speedo itself is at fault.
#6: Re: What is this plug for? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Mar 20, 2015 2:20 pm ---- There are a few ways to work out if the clocks are at fault. I will come back later with an answer. Basically you can tell if the ecu is getting a speed signal from the gearbox.
#7: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 3:46 pm ---- Ive changed the speed sensor for a new one, pp2000 is still saying speed sensor shorted to earth and things like aircon, airbags and even the roof is receiving incorrect signal from it.
One thing to point out is that when you save the scan data in pp2000 it comes up with a milage around 155000 miles yet the odometer is showing 98561 miles so it's a bit of a strange one.
Oh and the interior light flashes when you open a door.
Any clues on how to test if the ecu is detecting actual road speed? I havent tried pp2000 with live data while driving yet, suppose thats next course of action, then it will be dashboard out for a good inspection.
I can't just ignore this as because the roof is detecting a signal as if the car is moving it keeps disabling the roof and have to clear it with the diag which is getting annoying now.
#8: Re: What is this plug for? Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 4:05 pm ---- I would start to look for a wiring harness fault.
What happens if you disconnect the speed sensor & then do a global scan?
ABS system not reporting any faults?
#9: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:29 pm ---- I have thought about unplugging it and scanning, I reckon its wiring and the result will be the same because im also getting a power steering stop information (coherence) code too.
ABS is reporting no faults thank god and works properly too (blooming dogs lol)
I've had a quick look around the wiring but its a bit overwhelming where to start with it all as there's so much and what do you take off first and how, to get to check said wiring?
If this was a 205 i'd have it sorted in a jifffy
#10: Re: What is this plug for? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:41 pm ---- Mine broke the wire just behind the bumper at the big multi plug. Ever thought the ecu is looking at mileage in KM which is about 98k miles? If the roof and other stuff us playing up it suggests the ecu isn't getting a speed signal. That suggests it could be a wiring fault.
#11: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:57 pm ---- I dont think its getting a "speed signal" as such I do however think its getting a short circuit though because the interior light flashes when you open a door making it think the cars moving when it isnt, but pp2000 is saying it the wrong signal so not just earthed out so to speak.
You may be right about the 155,000 being in kms as thats what the program seems to default to, didnt think of that ha thanks, milage checks out and seems consistent on the mot history at least.
Bugger it going to check it now because its bugging me.
Re: the roof, when it stops working and i do a diag it comes up with speed signal wrong signal so is disabling it on purpose thinking im trying to open it while driving the car,
#12: Re: What is this plug for? Author: sloposse, Posted: Sat Mar 21, 2015 6:50 pm ---- Right, unplugged the speed sensor cleared all the codes and only code remaining now is power steering stop information (coherence) all other faults have dissappeared as expected.
Having said that it was like this before when the codes had been cleared until it had been driven. Ive had a few pernods so that will have to wait till tomorrow night after work now.
Had a quick look and cant see any big multiplug behind the bumper.
#13: Re: What is this plug for? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Mar 22, 2015 2:27 am ---- The plug is up behind the fog light.

Conversion factor between km and miles is 1.609 (1,609 meters to a mile), so 155,000 km equals 96,333 miles and 98,561 miles equals 158,584 km
#15: Re: What is this plug for? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Mar 22, 2015 3:55 am ---- Some cars have a sensor in the master cylinder don't they for the ESP? is that what the plug is for?
