Flashing Oil Light (1.4 8v 206)

#1: Flashing Oil Light (1.4 8v 206) Author: conker1221 PostPosted: Mon Apr 27, 2015 12:56 pm

Hi guys,

Basically after driving for a while and the car is all fully warmed up and i stop at some lights etc (basically the car is idle) the car seems to occasionally beep with the STOP sign and the oil light flashing.

I checked my oil which is full, and it's only been about 1000 miles since I last had new oil and a filter. Also my car has a oil pressure gauge on the dash along with a coolant gauge and it runs at 90 and never goes beyond.

Is this likely due to a sensor gone wrong or something? The car is running fine and like mentioned Oil is full and the pressure is fine.

Any help would be fantastic, cheers!

No 206 has a standard oil pressure gauge on the dash, some do have a oil temp gauge on the right of the instrument cluster with water temp gauge moved to the bottom of rev counter.

Genuine PSA Peugeot Citroen OR Purflux oil filter fitted OR was it Mickey Mouse s**te?

Not sure as it was fitted at the garage mate.

Just like to add that the oil level reader for the dash is faulty, it changes between full and no oil when it likes despite the dipstick showing it's full.

For Future reference, are Purflux Oil filters good for my pug? Think I'm going to change the oil and filter see if it solves it.

If the temp part of the oil gauge is working but the level part is having a sulk - Try cleaning the connector plug to the probe, I had exactly the same issue & doing that cured it.

Either a genuine Peugeot Citroen branded filter OR a Purflux will do the job fine.

Is it a canister OR a replaceable paper element type oil filter fitted to your 206?

It's a paper type one.

Where abouts is the plug? Also is it worth giving the Oil Pressure Switch a change considering it's only a few quid? Maybe that is playing up.

If it was me I would be pulling the switch out and putting in a real gauge to see for certain what was happening. A gauge will eliminate all wiring, plugs and sensor issues and you can be certain what is happening.

Fit the gauge, take the car for a drive, bring it home and then lift the bonnet to see what pressure you really have.

It's becoming really bizarre now

Today I let it idle for a while, eventually when the coolant temp got to around 94c the fan kicked in at low speed then pretty much straight after my oil light started to beep a few times, followed by the car heating up quickly (with the fan on at low speed) then causing the fan to kick in at high speed and the car cooling back down to 90c. Just to point out that the car is running fine at all times too.

I let it heat up again and it did the EXACT same thing twice, before I finally switched the engine off.

Anybody heard of it happening like this? I am finding it hard to understand.

Hi, Conker, I am having exactly the same problem, and go further to point out that Ive had the head gasket replaced as well as both cam and crank seals as there was an oil leak, I also have replaced a new oil pressure switch. With all this in mind and about 650.00 bucks out of pocket the problem persists and no one can pin point the problem. Anyway I will persist because I like this car a lot and if anything is found I will post it here, should you find out something yourself, please do the same.
thanks

It could still be head gasket or the cooling system may need bleeding.

Late response but this is solved.

Basically I gave the engine a flush/oil change, used total quartz 9000 and wynns engine flush, brand new filter (purflux) as recommended on here, also a new pressure switch.

no more oil light, for whatever reason it was reading low pressure, could of been the switch or the oil/filter as my last oil change was done at a garage and they put in anything they have most of the time!
