Tailgate rattle.
-> Solved 206 Problems

#1: Tailgate rattle. Author: MrMac PostPosted: Mon May 18, 2015 1:27 am

Hi there. I have done a search and can't seem to find an answer so here is my problem Wink

The tailgate on my car rattles whenever I go over bumps. I know its the tailgate as I picked up an armchair and tied down the boot and it there was no rattle. Looking at the alignment the gaps on each side look fine. Is there any way of adjusting it? The rubber seals are fine and the two rubber stoppers are there and in good condition. I have got rid of the shock noise, will be replacing the droplinks as at least one is noisy so once the tailgate is sorted I will be in heaven!

I had this problem a while back, I tightened the screws on the partthat the boot latches on to (attached to the body of the car not the boot). I think it's a torx head on it.

That tailgate catch/lock can be slid up or down for the needed tension - held by those two torx screws, experiment with that

I had another boot squeak on potholes, simple copper grease on the catch plastic sorted

3rd type of noise is when the tailgate interior trim top (that covers wiper innards) is loose, and rattles when you're driving withour parcel shelf

It was the position of the catch. I moved it down and tighted it up...now no more rattle. Very Happy

I read somewhere that electrical tape around the catch stops the rattle, it works for about a week or two but then starts again, Seriously I had so much tape on my catch the boot would hardly close lol

Adjusting the position is the way to do it properly, then you can hear all the other squeaks and rattles lol
