-> 206 Problems

#1: Loss of power Author: skybluebert PostPosted: Sun May 31, 2015 5:53 am

Coming home this morning and taking the straight on exit on a round about doing about 30ish and the car suddenly skipped sideways alittle and then giving it full beans down the straight road the car kind of juddered and showed a lack of power. Its done this quite a few times since when i've changed gear and a few times it seems to have wandered a little sideways. I've only owned it 3 weeks and noticed it had developed a sqeeling noise occausionally when turning. Also car seems to randomly judder and the rev counter moves when idling

Its a 206 1.4sw

its hard to diagnose but when i had my 1.1 the rev counter would bounce from anywhere between 900-2000 rpm on idle also it would try and accelerate to 2000rpm when driving which meanat i had to constantly play with the clutch and brake in traffic.

this for me was the Idle control valve/air control valve its a piece in the throttle body that determines how much air is entering the engine and can often cause rough running and an eratic idle.

first of all try cleaning it with carb cleaner this may work and only takes 20 mins if you have some torx bits and a flat head screwdriver

heres a good guide for a saxo but nearly identical

Cheers for the replies. i've let the problem play out a bit so i no whats happening.

Basically when cold the engine will idle with the rev counter progressing upto 1500 and the car vibrating alot more than normal. After abit of use nd the engines warm it seems to go.

The problem with excellerating is i can apply a little pressure with no problems. When i press pedal down for a bit more power it seems to hold back then lurch forward (repeat a few times) before giving me excelleration.

This all seems to be present alot more in the morning

Am i likely to just need a few bits cleaned or is it going to be an expensive fix?
