#1: Rattling like it's going to stall Author: glenpring, Location: KENTPosted: Thu Jun 04, 2015 3:33 pm ---- Hi all my wife just had the clutch in her 206 1.4 hdi done and was told the lower engine mount is bad. When you pull away the car rattles/judders like the car is about to stall. I took a quick look at the lower engine mount and it don't seem to be bad. It was rattling/ juddering before the clutch was done I put it down to the clutch going/slipping. Could it be anything else or is it the lower mount and I just could find a split in it?
If it is the lower engine mount can I Change the mount/bush while the alloy fitting is still on the car or does it need to come totally off? I do have a bush puller I brought when I did the wishbone bushes on my old Ibiza would that work on the engine mount?
#2: Re: Rattling like it's going to stall Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Fri Jun 05, 2015 3:14 am ---- Well the lower engine mount is important to support the engine when pull away,and also when you slow down with lowering gears,so it worth doing even if it don't fix the problem u have now,and if u have a strong bush puller,it can be done while it's on the car,it can be 30 min. job if all goes well,but remember if it don't go well,then you need to take the whole axle out,which can be tricky job to do home,good luck.
#3: Re: Rattling like it's going to stall Author: Carlos_WR1, Posted: Fri Jun 05, 2015 4:52 am ---- If a gear puller doesn't work, try some threaded bar, some nuts and an over sized impact socket larger than the bush. the idea being that with the impact socket being larger than the diameter of the bush, as you tighten the nut it will pull the bearing from the mount.
Use 2 nuts on the threaded bar on the one end to stop them moving down the threaded bar. put the bar through the centre of the bush, place the larger diameter impact socket over the threaded bar so the bearing can pull into it, then use 1 more nut on the threaded bar after the socket (you may also need a washer) as you tighten the nut after the impact socket, youll pull the bearing out. This method can be used in revers to pull the new bearing back in to the mount.
