Brakes ridiculously slack....

#1: Brakes ridiculously slack.... Author: Gezrick PostPosted: Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:24 am

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but just thought it might be a good place to get a pre-evaluation before heading to the garage.

I have a 206 1.4i lx 1999 and there's something up with my brakes. They work fine, no grinding or any feedback that feels out of place and I can stop the car with them easily enough, but they don't seem to kick in until my foot is nearly at the floor. I may be new to driving but this seems unusual to me.

I've check the fluid level and it's actually a little over maximum, I can't imagine that's causing it but I don't know enough to say for sure.

Any suggestions on what it could be would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Gez

Normally on a drum brake car like this will be, the rear shoes can go out of adjustment due to the automatic adjustors being rubbish & stopping working.

Normally a rear brake strip down, clean, adjust & grease will restore the correct operation.

Might be worth asking your mechanic to also check the front brakes condition while its on the ramp then change the brake fluid with a pressure bleed as well so you know the braking system is sorted.

I thought the drums might have something to do with it. Thank you Smile

I had similar where my foot went to the floor before stopping the car and the lining material had parted company with the shoe causing excessive movement in the drum
