hi, 206 2.0 litre 16 valve speedo not working. I understand its a sensor rather than a cable so could someone tell me where the sensor is located please.

On the gearbox. There are a few logic checks to do first. Does the interior light flash if you drive with the door open? If it does this suggests the ECU is getting a signal so the speed sensor isn't the problem.

Check the big multi plug behind the bumper. This is a weak spot on the wiring. Does the odometer still work? I.e. does is accumulate miles still?

The speed sensor is above where the offside driveshaft enters the diff housing its a right awkward bugger to get to as well.

Common problem with a non working speedo is when the offside driveshaft is removed and pushed back in it dislodges the drive cog which then traps and breaks it.

Of course a faulty or worn out speed sensor is the first thing to check.

Warning when you remove it the gearbox oil will spill out so be prepared, best to drain it all first then you can put it back in if its not too old.

Once you remove it you can plug it back in and spin the end in a drill and have someone sit in the car to check if the speedo works.

Wiring can rot too. The signal goes directly to the ecu and double backs to the engine fusebox then to the bsi which then gets distributed to allsorts including the abs and even the aircon ecu
