#1: New remote key Author: tom66, Posted: Sat Sep 05, 2015 3:08 pm ---- I've just inherited my dad's old 206, it's a 2005 model with the 2.0L HDi diesel engine and 5dr saloon body.
Unfortunately, he's misplaced the original remote key. I only have the spare manual key. The car starts and works fine with this key, but it's a pain to lock and unlock manually all the time.
I've looked on eBay and the remote keys look to be around £20 (plus costs to get it cut to match the other key.) The programming process looks simple (just press a few buttons, turn the ignition, etc.), the question I have is will this work fine without having the original remote key?

Once you have got the right one (good luck working that out), the car needs hooking up to PP2000 so that the remote fob and virgin transponder chip can be programmed to the car using the alpha numeric security code provided by Peugeot.
If the BSI is programmed to only accept 1 plip fob, you will also need PP2000 to remove the old fob so that the new one can be added to the system.
The process of "just press a few buttons, turn the ignition etc" is for re-synching a remote that is already paired with the car

I'm being pressured by Dad into getting this sorted as he says the locks are likely to freeze in winter so I won't be able to use the manual unlock facility.
Is this a common issue, or maybe something only older cars had a problem with? (He's been driving for many years and is ex military)

Lubricate the locks with some graphite grease and you shouldn't have a problem over winter. The most common time for the key to break is when it's in the fuel cap as people seem to forget to lubricate them and they do have a tendency to stick in cold weather.
Definitely get a new blade cut though. That way if you snap a key you can still get in and start the car (as long as you keep the fob)

I agree with Macca,without this process you can't have 2 working keys,I can get the 4 digits for you,but you need to check the PP2000 map to see if you got members close to you who can help u with this.
