engine start issues following key fob replacement

#1: engine start issues following key fob replacement Author: jack.bauer PostPosted: Sun Sep 13, 2015 3:06 pm
    ----
so just got this 206, 07 plate. hardly driven it.
first thing i did was get a replacement fob case from ebay as the original one was manky, buttons missing etc..

did the replace (retaining original balde obviously) then took it to the test and all good (lock/unlock remotely, engine start). took it for a spin too.

car was then parked for couple weeks without being driven. returned to it and tried to start but it wouldnt - usual sound when a battery is flat i.e engine cranks slowly on the starter and gradually slows to a stop.

got jump leads and after 5min, the engine finally turned except not all the way. it just wouldn't start. a healthy crank but no start. took the key out and notice "engine immobiliser fault" on the dash.

Googled it, found a page that recommended disconnecting the battery then reconnecting as a form of "reset". tried that, didn't work.

brought out the spare key and engine starts first go. tried the original key again and car starts first go. so at this point I'm confused.

waited a bit while continued to recharge the battery via the leads. then tried again with the main key (that had fob case replaced) and same issue. engine cranks healthily but doesn't start.

it seems that if i want to use the main key, i first need to start the car with the spare key, turn the engine off. then insert main key for it to work.

im reluctant to think the key fob replacement is at fault and more that i have confused the ecu due to the flat battery fault?

battery reading:

idle: 12.7V
engine on: 14.5V

thoughts?

Sounds like you haven't swapped the transponder chip into the new case, if not maybe the key needs coding to the car with pp2000

Well if you didn't took the black chip from the old key then that is why you have the problem,if that is the case,I hope you didn't throw away the old key.

If the BSI unit is still awake while you try the suspect key, the immobiliser wont have activated so it wont bother looking for the transponder chip so will allow a key with the correct mechanical cut to start the engine.

Start the car with the good key, switch it off, open the door & place the good key well away from the car.

Now try the suspect key & see what happens.
