Instrument niggles/occasional 'blip'
-> 206 Problems

#1: Instrument niggles/occasional 'blip' Author: davey, Location: Newbury, Berkshire PostPosted: Tue Sep 22, 2015 3:20 pm
    ----
Just bought a 2000, 1.6 Roland Garros and overall, happy with it.....except....
It has a few...issues.
The tachometer is a dirty liar. When I wish to know the engine RPM, I should be able to look at the dial and get an answer, yes? But the 206 gives a gallic shrug, and says 'I don know'. One day tickover reads 2k rpm and 70mph claims anything from 5-6k, the next, I can pull away without even waking the needle up, and 70 mph cruising comes at under 2k rpm on the dial.
The temp gauge is similarly afflicted, pot luck whether it wakes up at all.
Are they likely to be connected, instrument panel FUBAR? Or more likely sender or wiring issues, totally separate?
Also, it gives an occasional 'blip' at idle, exactly as it sounds, it's like I blip the throttle, revs rise momentarily and settle back down. No running problems elsewhere in the rev range, no hesitancy when pulling away or flat spots. Engine is standard, except for a stainless big bore exhaust, could it be the exhaust causing it?
Any advice appreciated
Cheers
Dave

Possible wiring fault.
