Author: W573ADS, Location: BirminghamPosted: Tue Oct 06, 2015 3:45 pm ---- Hey there guys got an urgent problem, brought my mrs a rolland garros a couple months ago as weve got a little one on the way, well now shes here its started having issues, when running and it starts raining it cuts and dies, AA came out and did a repair on the loom by the crank sensor.
Just gone out to it tonight to move it and its been p**sing down all day and still is now and it wont start....... What you guys think? Only happens when it rains and now even when it hasnt moved

Does the engine try to fire at all (sputter)?
Is it collecting water under the bonnet near the ECU by any chance? (Just above wiper fluid reservoir fill pipe)
Otherwise I'd inspect the earth strap/battery connectors and check all other connectors for proper fit and cleanliness

Could clean with WD40 and refit with Vaseline

#7: Re: Roland garros wont start in the rain? Author: McGuiverNL, Location: AmsterdamPosted: Sun Oct 11, 2015 12:56 pm ---- Hmm... Sounds tricky then indeed!
Guess you'll have to grab a plant sprayer and start misting carefully around components with a running engine... (The way old dodgy plug wires and distributors would show faults, either sparking around or engine cutting out)
Try the battery terminals first, then earth strap, then coil pack connector and pack itself and even other connectors I'd say?

#9: Re: Roland garros wont start in the rain? Author: W573ADS, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sun Oct 11, 2015 3:43 pm ---- Well aa came out before and diagnosed crank sensor wiring loom as had a couple cuts in outer casing, he fixed it and seemed to work, (had also stopped raining....) i could believe that when it did it when was driving but now its doing it when parked up makes me think the looms not the problem (no water flicking up onto it from road)
#10: Re: Roland garros wont start in the rain? Author: McGuiverNL, Location: AmsterdamPosted: Sun Oct 11, 2015 4:17 pm ---- Just moisture in the air could cause electrical issues to show up too, especially with the extremely high voltages in ignition systems;
If the symptoms show up in mist but no rain that would help
If it's not some short or disturbance from water coming in (ECU, rear lights, even aerial etc?) then last idea maybe intake air sensor?
