Hi.

I'm in the middle of replacing my head gasket and when taking the thermostat housing off I noticed that black sealant had been used to seal the housing to the head.

Is there such a thing as a 'thermostat housing gasket' or will I have to re-seal using sealant?

Thanks

Yep exactly that mate clean up any remains of the sealant and apply some silicone sealer (wurth rtv sealant is my favourite) Apply a thin film and reattach allowing it to set before any fluids are added.

As above, if there is no seal on your type just clean it up with sand paper and reseal it

Cheers guys..

When I removed it, I thought I had uncovered someone's "bodge job"

Shame there isn't a dedicated gasket for it...
