4000rpm after stepper motor change

#1: 4000rpm after stepper motor change Author: Luminol PostPosted: Fri Oct 09, 2015 1:24 pm

Hi Guys,

Long time fan but first time joining and was hoping to pick a few brains. I have 2002 Peugeot 206 and the idle spikes and jumps on its own now and then. Sometimes the Rev counter will jump up when I. Driving also.

So, I picked up a new stepper motor, replaced it, turned the key on and the car just went rev crazy. Idles really high at 4000 and just stayed there until I turned the engine off. I replaced the original and it now does the same with the original. Does anyone know what I've done? Thanks so much. It's my only at and need to work tomorrow.

Have you turned it on again since it idled at 4000rpm?

I replaced the ICV in my old GTi-6 a few years back and it did the same thing, but after turning it on again the idle was lower but not where it should've been. After a few turns on and off it settled to the correct rpm.

Did you clean the hole that it sits in?

On some cars if you turn the ignition on and leave it for 30 secs then turn it off for 30 secs, the stepper motor might get reset. When you try and restart, don't use the throttle at all.
