#1: Second and Fourth gear not seating right Author: FrankAteMyName, Location: TewkesburyPosted: Thu Nov 19, 2015 5:12 am ---- I drive a 1.4 8v Urban, 56 reg. It's covered 64,000 miles.
My gear knob has always had a lot of play in it since I bought the car. I did a bit of digging and it would appear that this could be down to the gear linkages. I have no issue with having a go at this myself - it's just time that's the issue.
Yesterday on the drive home I noticed that something felt off with my downshift to second. The gear knob did't go as far back as it usually does and it felt quite... Spongey? Like, if you pull reasonably hard to get it to seat where it used to it's as if someone has put some high density foam in the way.
After further investigation I realised that fourth gear was suffering similar issues. I ulled over, stuck it in reverse - no issues - and then second and fourth gear felt a little better. That is, until I started driving when they reverted back to how they were before.
Does anyone have any clue what could be causing this? It doesn't cause me much harm but it does occasionally pop out of second.
Cheers in advance,
Frank
