#1: 206 in Edinburgh wont start - Now Fixed Author: PS1000 PostPosted: Mon Jan 04, 2016 4:27 am

Hi Happy New Year ! 2004 206 Petrol 1.4S wont start.

It was starting and running fine until 2 days ago

Engine turns over as normal but wont fire

Have checked all connections and fuses - all good

All other electrics appear to work as expected

I assume it's multiplexed at this age (54 plate)

Fuel pump primes for 3 secs as expected and I've also tried a temporary direct connection to the battery to ensure it continues to pump - all good and the fuel sprays out of the schrader valve when pressed in

So I'm assuming its electrical. Unfortunately there is only one key with the car so wanted to firstly check if it was being recognised by the BSI and thus allowing the ignition circuit to operate. However all the local garages are closed today - so I'm stuck without access to proper diagnostics

As far as I'm aware the design of the coil pack means that its not possible to check for a spark at the plug ?

Any other suggestions appreciated

Thanks in anticipation - and for a great forum

Cheers

Pete

Hello and welcome to 206info.co.uk ,well most likely the coil pack is faulty,if that is the case, make sure you buy the Bougicord coil pack as it's the best.

Thanks Timon. I managed to tow it to a local Indy garage (who I thought had PP2000 but unfortunately they dont)

They are advising that there is no power getting to the coil pack and suspected an immobilisation issue so they got someone in to check the key was being recognised. He says there is a key registered and suspects the 'ECU has been spiked'

This surprises me as nothing had been done to the car prior to it not starting. No battery charging or jump starting or doing anything electrical - It was just one day it would not start.

Any advice on what I should do next. I wondered about the antenna ring which recognises the key - Is there any way to check if that is functioning OK?

All other electrics are working which makes me think the BSI is OK. Is there any way to confirm if an ECU is functioning or not. If not is it a plug and play replacement or does it have to be re-coded. I'm starting to worry that the only way forward is to take it to an official Peugeot dealer - but I cant bear to think how much that would cost if they said they needed to put in a new ECU ££££

There must be a cheaper way to get the French electronics to behave

If it helps the VIN No is VF32AKFWF44471015

Any suggestions much appreciated

Thanks

Problem sorted. If someone had just whispered "Try the crank sensor mate"

Glad that you got it sorted,i forgot about the crack sensor,as if it's faulty, the engine will never start.
