#1: No Horn & Airbag Fault (is this the cause)? Author: tommyb32, Location: East Sussex PostPosted: Mon Jan 25, 2016 10:31 am

So ive had no horn that was intermittent for a short period for a while now.
ive got my MOT coming up and today im getting Airbag fault to.
ive tried to inspect what could be the cause and have stumbled across this (photo)...
The grey clip that has 3 ribbon cables attached seems to be the problem, one of the 3 cables as torn. Can anybody clarify that this would be the cause of having no horn then after time an airbag fault?

if so how do i fix this? is it a new com2000 unit or can i get the cables on their own?

Where does that connector come from? An you see where/if the 3rd copper track should go too?

If I remember right red and black wire are the horn.

It may be that the grey connector is using only two out of that 3-wired ribbon, for black and red cables, that come into short circuit to trigger the horn. Much cheaper in production, rather than sourcing a two-track one.

Have you checked your horn is fine itself (run some live wires straight from battery, with all care taken naturally), and hasn't blown its fuse either?

You'd then anyway need PeugeotPlanet to see which airbag is at fault, it all might be just a sequence of unrelated unfortunate events (when it rains, it pours), as horn and airbag aren't in common (except running as ribbons inside Com2000, when you turn the wheel, so they still work from full lock to full lock). And also if your Com2000 isn't completely knackered; I know mine GTi 180 was after someone tried to fit a boss kit...

But I would start from main electrics first and work your way down to VAN communications (data signal bus between Com2000, BSI, and the horn relay) only as last check.

Your car ir multiplexed I presume.

PeugeotPlanet is also able to activate horn as a test.

On GTi I found the connectors on horn itself had covered in green rust, due to horn's location being exposed to elements and what not. A good scrub inside both jack and the socket brought the sounding back.

Usually the Horn and airbag faults caused by a fauly Com2000 unit,so a used one in great condition,or a new one will fix this, but to be sure, try to got it scanned with PP2000.

Engine fusebox, F13 15A , this helps Smile

I'd start from power end, once that's sure to function, it's time to plug PP2000 and eventually suspect Com2000

Just as expected.

So have you tested the horn itself by wiring it up straight to battery?

And have you read airbag faults with PP2000, if new Com2000 hasn't sorted it?

Cheers, and good luck!

Just to mention that airbag fault message doesn't necessarily mean steering wheel's airbag (Com2000 merely relays the two cables for it), can be either of other ones as well. Hence the PP2000 info is a best trusted source.

Proper scanners at the garage (those for £1000 and more that they use), should also be just as good.
