I've recently bought a (very cheap) '03 reg 1.4 8v (TU3JP) GLX with electric sunroof, climate control and all those bits and pieces. Oh, and it's done 94k with a questionable service history.
Today on my commute to work it was pretty cold out (2degs says the car) and about 5 miles into my commute the engine management light started blinking and it would beep every ~3 blinks. I suffered a huge loss of power and the car sounds like an old diesel powerboat - very lumpy on the idle and very shaky/rattly. It's also lumpy the whole way through the rev range.
I'm not really an engine guy so I was hoping someone on here could point me in the right direction.
Also - I have an entire car with the same engine I'm breaking should any parts need transplanting - potentially even the whole engine.

Would I be right in saying it's likely to be injectors or coilpack? If so would it be wise to grab the ones from the other engine that I know are working and give them a go?

Engine Management Light, no Power Author: gazza82, Location: South BucksPosted: Tue Feb 09, 2016 4:44 am ---- If you have a spare engine, try the coilpack ... only swap ONE item at a time though if you do decide to try other parts .. but the coilpack is the most straightforward and massive power loss is one symptom.

Just started the engine briefly and it ran fine again. EMS light lit up and then switched itself off again. I didn't take it for a spin at all. Any thoughts on this or is this normal and would I expect to see the fault resurface? I don't have access to PP2000 until the weekend is the only issue I have at the mo.

Try the coilpack .. it will be pretty obvious as if the problem reappears it isn't likely to be that ..

But since you bought this car with a questionable service history,it's good to have a full service to this car,starting from a set of new OEM spark plugs (Eyquem) ones,is the best for 1.4 engine.
Then replace the timing belt along with new water pump,oil and oil filter,and air filter,and petrol filter as well,this way,you will have a car that you can drive daily with no problems
