#1: How to bypass the heater matrix? Author: jackpf, Posted: Thu Mar 24, 2016 5:25 am ---- Hi,
I have leaking coolant in the passenger footwell, and from reading up it seems like this is the heater matrix leaking.
It seems like replacing the entire heater is a difficult job, and I'm not too bothered about being warm, so is there any way to simply bypass the heater matrix? Google isn't being too helpful.
Cheers,
Jack

It's not really that difficult to do as you don't have to take out the dash despite what everyone says. I personally ran half a bottle of radweld through the system

Ah cheers, I'll give it a go.
I have seen videos of doing it without taking out the dash but it still looks a bit complicated and I need a bit of a short term fix for now.
Cheers.

Can be done by opening a window though not gonna be pleasant in winter but I'd rather have a working engine than be nice and toasty!

Generally, blocking coolant pipes is considered bad practice so I'd avoid that for obvious reasons.
However, making a u bend out of PVC pipe offcuts works as I have done it. You'll need 3 little offcuts and 2 elbow joints. A couple of O rings should keep it all together. Try and get the pipe just a little thicker than the two rubber pipes on the engine side of the bulkhead (the ones that go to the matrix). Unplug those, stick the u bend in and bleed the system and hey presto leak averted.
I'll upload a picture later or Tuesday.
Remember: 9 times out of 10 the matrix itself if sound but coolant is actually leaking from the 2 plates where the plastic pipes join the matrix. If this is the case it can be fixed with any generic O ring set or you can get them from Peugeot for £15.
I have the part number somewhere but if you ask for the heater matrix piping and O rings they'll know what you mean. Make sure to check for leaks before buying a new matrix.
Hope that helps.
