#1: Looking to buy a 138 - Advice? Author: FrankAteMyName, Location: TewkesburyPosted: Mon Apr 18, 2016 4:52 am ---- So far I've driven 2 1.4 8v 206s. They've been alright except for the obvious lack of power. Much to my surprise I've just found that I can get insured on a GTi 138 for a very tempting price. I understand the fuel costs will be higher (though not by how much) and I was wondering if you guys would have abny input.
So am I being stupid or is it a good idea?
Cheers
EDIT:
I should probably give you some more info about the car. It's an '03 GTi 138 in obsidian black. In good visual condition inside and out. Seller says that it can grind when putting it into third but it does stay in gear. It's only got 58k on the clock and MOT history backs that up. It's going for £600 which seems like a steal to me.

Probably the syncromesh wearing which is going to mean a new gearbox at some point, even if you don't have to do it immediately. What about looking at another one?

They're fast enough for what they are, I can't remember what they're like on fuel as mine's been in storage for 3 years but I don't remember it being too bad. Plus obviously you get the CD changer, trip computers, gloss mirrors and so on.
