Hi when using the blowers there's a putrid damp smell any idea what it could be? Where to start looking?

Thanks

How long has the smell been there? Is it any different if the heater is set to hot or cold? Is it any different if you have it set to direct air to the windscreen, centre vents or foot warmers? What's the coolant level like in the expansion bottle? How old's the car? Does it have aircon?

I would have said it was the pollen filter, but since you say you've already changed that you need to start investigate further.

The passenger footwell was wet after the heater matrix leaked it's been replaced and the footwell has been shampooed

The cars a 2008 the smells always been there since we bought it 2 months ago the water level is good too

Haven't noticed a difference in smell when blowers on different setting but will pay further attention to this

Car does have air con that isn't cold a clean and recharge are on my to do list!
