The low beam headlight don't work

#1: The low beam headlight don't work Author: dedemiegas PostPosted: Fri Sep 30, 2016 6:37 pm

Got a really bad problem I can't solve on a peugot 206cc 2002 Y reg. High beam is fine. All other lights too. Just left side low beam headlight don't work.
Changed bulb H7 even if i thought old one was allright. Checked all fuses one by one looks allright.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks

Always worth checking fuses with a continuity tester rather than by eye as sometimes they can look alright but have blown.

Did you check the engine bay fuses (F11) as well as the ones under the steering wheel?

If F11 is OK then you'll need to crack out the multimeter and start checking the feed to and from the plug to rule out a bad connection.

I'd get a multimeter straight on the headlamp plug terminal to check for power.

it seems power coming to red wire terminal but not to black wire one.

You need +12 on one side (red) and a connection to ground on the other (set meter to resistance [or continuity beep] and check for good connection to ground/battery negative pole.) Don't probe the red while on resistance/continuity - might let the magic smoke out of the meter Crying or Very sad

Or on voltage, just measure the voltage between the two terminals in the plug.
If you get 12-14V across those but a known good bulb still doesn't light up, you might have a high resistance/poor connection somewhere. The meter draws very little current, therefore the voltage drop across the poor connection is negligible and you still see 12-14 at the plug, but the bulb draws a much bigger current, causing a big voltage drop across the poor connection, not leaving enough voltage across /current flowing through the bulb for it to light up.
You could try setting the meter to 10/20A range, stick one terminal of the bulb into the plug and connect the meter between the empty connector in the plug and the unconnected terminal of the bulb and see if there is any current at all flowing.

So my tester was wrong. It was no power in terminal. I checked all fuses under the steering wheel aswell. They was ok. So I bought new fuses and replaced them that's pic how it looks, am I looking to right ones?

And if fuses ok but no power in terminals what next step to sort out problem? I'm confused.
Thank you

usually the fuses concern the headlight are located in the engine box,not under the steering wheel.

Hi new on here. My front passenger dipped beam light is not working. Changed the bulb but no difference. Next step is to change the fuse. Might sound a silly question, but are the 206 fuses standard or mini blade fuses?

Mixed (both)
GIYF
Engine compartment fusebox
Passenger compartment fusebox
Might not exactly match yours depending on preplex or multiplexed wiring system (switches in 2001)
