I'm after some advice/ ideas about my 2001 1.4 Petrol 206 that, following a new battery installation, is now cranking but not starting.
Car had been running fine since replacement fuel injector in December 2016, but then had a flat battery about 2 weeks ago. Old battery was due replacement so did so, but car has not started since. It cranks fine but wont start and no movement of the needle on the rev counter on cranking.
Have checked all suspect fuses for continuity - no issues. Coil pack also replaced (following advice from RAC in December that it would need doing soon). Still no joy.
No issues with central locking/ lights/ interior lights/ radio - all working fine.
Tried BSI reset procedure (multiple times) as recommended in another thread on this forum. Have also inspected earth cable from battery negative terminal to gear box - all seem in tact.
The mechanic I usually use (when my car is driveable!) kindly popped round and plugged diagnostic tool in and came up with fault code P1612 - something to do with the immobiliser I understand? He has put me in touch with someone who specialises in auto-electrics but also warned that in his experience, this sort of issue can be a bit of a money pit.
So I'm really after any further ideas about anything else it would be reasonably simple to check before deciding whether its worth potentially spending significant amounts of money on a 16 year old car that has had a fair amount spent on it already over the past 6 months. Not at all adverse to spending money with the experts, but would like to do what I can first!

Try to start car, leave key in ignition and open the door - does the car beep at you for 'forgetting' the key in the ignition?
If not, it doesn't 'see' an RFID chip it recognizes (has been registered/programmed to the car) and the immobilizer will prevent ignition/spark.
Could be a loss of memory and reprogramming the key[s] to the car might solve it, or it might be other hardware related stuff like the RFID antenna by the ignition coil, or the circuitry driving/reading it...

Generic readers are pretty much useless. Do a search on the forum for Peugeot planet map and pm a member that is close to you.

Thanks for the suggestion - can't find a link to the map that works, but will see if anyone is still in my area.

Be patient though, someone will be along soon enough that has planet. Unfortunately I'm too far away and mine is in pieces anyway.
