Service interval.......2.0 HDI

Not really a "problem" as such, more of a quirk.....

I'm given to understand that the 2.0 HDI engine oil change interval is 12,000 miles/12 months (whichever comes first). (And that there's an interim check mentioned too, but its not an oil change).

If that's the case, why does my 2.0HDI's service indicator count down from 17250 miles or whatever?

Also (confusingly) I've also seen it mentioned that the oil change interval is 6000 miles but that feels too short to me. And don't get me started on what kind of oil it should be.....I've seen everything from mineral oil to fully synth recommended, by various sources. Logic tells me that a diesel, if its service interval is really long, needs a decent oil.....but if the interval is short (like, in days gone by when diesels needed fresh oil every 3000 or 5000 miles etc) it would be a fairly basic oil. So I don't particularly want to go down the rabbithole of the specification of oil.

I'm 90% sure that 12000 miles/12 months, and £25 bottle of 5W30 synth will do fine.

Well my advice to you would be to have a clean and fresh oil as much as possible, and the cleaner the oil,the better engine life would be,longer life for the turbo,so 6000 miles is good,or twice a year :),and try to use some flushing products, and oil additive as well,I recommend ( BG 109),and (BG DOC).
