#1: New Head unit...now key won't work Author: Rob3twenty, Location: South YorkshirePosted: Sat Jul 22, 2017 5:50 pm ---- Hello knowledgeable ones,
Been a long time reader but not posted much...never really needed to seeing as most answers are on here, so thankyou for that and years of solutions.
I have however just purchased a new 206 '05 1.4 diesel (cheap tax ya see)
I have put in a new headset and in my haste didn't realise the whole wires thing and found my unit was permanently on, I have tried various combinations and it still doesn't want to play. It even turned on when I unlocked the car...so that was one issue however.... I have been tinkering all day but now my key won't work, the remote locking won't work and now the car won't start presumably the immobiliser in the key has thrown a wobble.
I have tried resetting the key (2 button no LED one) and now I've disconnected the battery to try and reset whatever it is that popped. I've put a new battery in to no gain.
Any advice or help on this? Has anyone else ever come across this?

Thanks XRBlue for your reply I think you're right. I have just been out and checked a few things and I have no wipers or lights working, I think I may have popped a few messing about!!
#4: Re: New Head unit...now key won't work Author: xrblue, Location: cwmbranPosted: Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:44 pm ---- Not sure about your car but mine has a fuse box by the battery and more fuses under the steering wheel.
#5: Re: New Head unit...now key won't work Author: Rob3twenty, Location: South YorkshirePosted: Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:47 pm ---- Yeah mine has both too, I've looked under the steering wheel and there seems to be nothing there relating to lights etc so I'll check under the bonnet in the morning because it's tipping it down here. Cheers
#6: Re: New Head unit...now key won't work Author: Rob3twenty, Location: South YorkshirePosted: Sat Jul 22, 2017 7:06 pm ---- Sorry for the double post but could it be possible that I have drained the battery a bit by switching things on and off etc all day thus not having enough power for stuff? I would have thought the headlights would work though...hmmmm
#7: Re: New Head unit...now key won't work Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Jul 23, 2017 3:32 am ---- One of the fuses that protects the radio also protects the immobiliser.
Fuse box under steering wheel - fuse will most likely be blown, it normally does during aftermarket radio install if the BSI unit is awake.
The car will also now be stuck in economy mode until you start the engine.

I do however have a word of warning to people like me who only tinker with cars and don't really know much. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY!!! I have had a sleepless night paranoid that I'd fried the BSI but the worst bit would have been telling my Mrs what I'd done hahahaha
I do have a question about my new headunit though but I'll put that in the ICE section.
Basically I checked every fuse and it turned out to be a little yellow one on the far left of the fusebox under the steering wheel, put a new one in and it fired up first time, I had changed my battery in the key when I first hit the snag so I've reprogrammed that and we're all good and everything is back to normal, which is a relief. The only downside is I've still haven't put my new head unit in, but hey ho a small price to pay.
Tanks everyone for your help.
