#1: 206 HDi 2.0 2003 Super slack auxiliary belt Author: richiewebb, Posted: Sat Aug 26, 2017 5:32 pm ---- I have just replaced the power steering pump in my 206 SW 2.0 HDi 2003.
After fitting the new unit I have tried to refit the auxiliary drive belt and it is now really slack. If anything I thought it would be too tight as the new pulley wheel on the Power Steering Pump is slightly larger than the previous.
When losing the pulley tensioner should I have placed a locking pin somewhere? Or is it a case of re-tensioning the belt as at present it is too loose?
Any suggestions.

It'll only sit tight and fit if it's in the exact layout it should be. Any other configuration and it's either too short or as youve found out seems too long.
You've got the belt going from the crank up to the PAS and then down on the alternator (GEN) and then across and around the tensioner and down to the A/C pump.
It should go down from the PAS around the tensioner first then up to the alternator and back down to the A/C.
2L HDi with PAS and AC should be as the diagram below on the right hand side...

I have re-looped the drive belt around this configuration. Now even with the tensioner released its too tight. With it being unable to fit over the final pulley when fitting.
I guess this was my concern with the replacement power steering pump coming with a slightly bigger pulley wheel.

Take it with you & see if you can get a slightly longer one from your friendly motor factor.

Lay the belts side by side and see how much difference there is.
#9: Re: 206 HDi 2.0 2003 Super slack auxiliary belt Author: richiewebb, Posted: Sun Sep 03, 2017 7:54 pm ---- Finally managed to get the belt on with help from a good friend with better tools. Even with the tensioner slackened off it just slipped on just. Snug fit however the tension seems fine.
Good to have it back together even though it seems the cracked bearing I was looking to fix wasn't in the power steering unit. Thinking im going to be replacing the pulleys or alternator but that will be another day.
