#1: Fast idle - ET3J4 1.4 16v 207 Author: 14hdi, Posted: Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:43 pm ---- Hi guys, haven't used the forum form a few years now as I have not owned a Pug.
I have a 207 1.4 16v (ET3J4) engine which had a fairly significant oil leak on the timing end. After removing the engine mount and cover it still was not clear if the oil leak was from the head gasket or one of the cam seals.
(pretty sure this engine is in the 206 as well???)
If you are familiar with the engine you will know that there is a plastic cover fitted behind the cam pulleys which extends down below the head gasket line. To get a closer look I removed the cam pulleys and the cover and gave it all a good clean. After reassembling and starting the car it was clear the oil was leaking from the head gasket, however the car was now idling at 1500 rpm.
I thought this was odd, however continued with the head gasket change. After changing the head gasket and reassembling it still idles at 1500 however the problem is intermittent, therefore it must be timed correctly.
I the decided to plug the car int PP2000 and it is telling me that there is a fault with the VVT valve. I found this odd as the valve was working fine prior to the work. So before I buy a new VVT valve.....
(Sorry for the long back story) So the question is is there a specific way to fit the inlet cam pulley (VVT) as I simply fitted the pulley to the keyway, locked it using the locking pin and tightened it up and the tightened the the 38mm oil cap.
