Hub Thread
-> 206 Problems

ARGH!

So, lifted the rear up today and noticed a nut missing and then noticed that despite 2 being 17mm, 1 was 19mm. That just annoyed me.

Anyway, grabbed a spare one that I had that should have fitted to find that the nut didn't catch at all when the alloy was on, seems to be missing the initial thread within the hub.

Question time. Do I pick up the Helicoil Thread Repair Kit or can I use an extended length bolt?

Without the alloy, the bolt catches and tightens well so appears to just be the initial few threads.

Annoyed me nonetheless! Evil or Very Mad

Should also mention, the bolts currently in place are flat seated. I'd normally expect a taper seat for aftermarkets or is this just me?

Just wondering on replacing the whole lot... especially as they're not in the best shape! Of course there is always the option of a conversion kit - has anybody done this on here?

I can only comment on the flat/taper seats and that would depend on the wheel ...

Personally I'd probably fit a replacement hub rather than trying to helicoil it .. also, conversion from/to what? Drum to disc I assume ...

I was thinking of a hub replacement - I like things shiny anyway!

I've thought about a change from drum to disc but the conversion seems to be a nightmare! Was looking at changing bolts to nuts - there's a few conversion kits available online I noticed, just wasn't sure how suitable they were!
