Peugeot 206 1.4 ECU injection issue
-> Solved 206 Problems

#1: Peugeot 206 1.4 ECU injection issue Author: vpapanik PostPosted: Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:11 pm

It's my first post on this forum, seeking help on a serious problem with my Peugeot 206 1.4 75PS (2002).

The problem is that one cylinder stops when the engine gets somehow hot (after about 10 km drive). The diagnostic shows
a problem on injector 4 circuitry (P0204). I have changed injectors 1 and 4, checked the wiring to the ECU, everything ok.
However, the problem stands.

It's very probable that there's something wrong with my ECU. Since the cost of replacing it is substantially high and since
I have a good experience with electronics, is it possible to try to troubleshoot the PCB ? It's maybe just a bad capacitor or the
injection driver chip which needs replacement. Is there any info available on the ECU (i.e. schematic) ? It is a SAGEM type.

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Are you 100% sure its actually the injector at fault?

The ECU on the 206 is smart enough to notice a coil pack or spark plug misfire & shut down an individual injector to protect the cat from being poisoned by unburnt petrol, but as it has shut down the injector it then reports an injector fault when you read the fault codes.

If its got NGK spark plugs fitted then change then for Bosch or Denso ones, NGK spark plugs are known to cause issues with the misfire phase detection system fitted on the 206.

If its got a Sagem coil pack fitted, bin it as that's another known issues ( id be shocked if its still got the factory fitted Sagem coil pack ) & get a decent non Sagem one, Bougicord is the coil pack of choice.

The ECU is pretty bulletproof, plus its full of potting compound to protect the PCB, I very much doubt its the ECU at fault.

Thanks a million for your reply. I will check the coil pack + spark plugs as well as you suggest. I haven't done so because the diagnostic didn't show anything about these two yet !

I agree with MrBSI,usually what cause this is the coil pack,or bad spark plugs.

Update : put a brand new coil pack, also checked the spark plugs and swapped them, looked fine.

However the problem persists; after a few miles, the engine loses one cylinder due to P0204 (4th injector circuit).

I think that the only thing left is to check the ECU injector output with an oscilloscope. If something bad shows there, then the only way is to replace the TLE6220 injector driver chip on the ECU. Huge problem Sad

Have you checked / replaced the injector wiring harness?

Do these use semi or sequential injection? Do they have a camshaft sensor?

Problem solved : it was a bug in the diagnostic software (Delphi).

After checking with an oscilloscope, the faulty injector was #2 instead of the reported #4.

The software wrongly reported cylinders in the order of firing instead of the physical order ! Physical 1-3-4-2 was reported as 1-2-3-4. So #4 was actually #2.

Still cannot believe it.

Good that you got this sorted, and thank you that you wrote what was wrong so that others can read this and help them to solve a similar problem.
