#1: multi function display Author: martin56 PostPosted: Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:39 am

Hi guys, have a problem with my multi function display, its dead, the radio works ok, as does the stalk control to remotely change stations etc, Now, it worked when I picked the car up I have had it out, checked the bulbs, with a 12v tester and power supply and all 4 are working but when I plugged it back in, there's still nothing working, I checked the fuses and nothing has blown I did read that one of the buttons also acts as a dimmer , is this right? when I held the unit up to the light, I can see the various icons etc, before I start looking for bad connections etc, does anyone have any ideas?

UP date, it appears to be working when I remove the cover, but once I re fit the cover, it seems to be pushing the unit backwards and i'm guessing its breaking an connection I took the cover off to look at the PCB board and a folded up bit of cardboard fell out clearly its been bodged somewhere so im now thinking something needs to be re soldered but what?

There are two boards. One has pins that fit into a plug in the other. The pins come loose and all you need to to is to re-solder them back on. Had to do that to one of ours.

The card was probably forcing the board to touch the pins but was never going to be a long-term fix .. just a bodge

had it apart and the small 2 pinned plug was not even attached to the PCB, so I soldered it back on, display works, but again same issue, when I put the cover on, the display cant be seen, I take it off it comes back on, its securely mounted I think I will just live with it, for time being, thing is its the 4 light, with a solid bar connector type, not the more often found 3 light type can I change one for the other?

Unfortunately the 3 and 4 lights are not swappable ...

Choice are either find a working replacement one.

Try one of the vehicle electronic component repair places online for a service / exchange unit OR repair on your own unit.

Failure of these units in this way is a known issue on the non plexed 206.

If you have the VIN I can look up the part number & availability of a replacement.

Sure, vin is VF32CKFWF41828414
Thing is I got it working, but when I fit the cowl, it must be pushing on the display and pushing against it breaking the connection, because as soon as I take the cowl away, it comes back to life.

Had it apart again, and its clearly the pins, and I've had another go at it, but still no luck, so I'm now scouring local breaker sites for a replacement everything else works, so I can live with it for now.

The original display fitted when your 206 rolled out of Ryton was part number 6155 Q5 & that's £173.27 including VAT.

That part number was superseded by part number 6155 CT & that's £280.54 including VAT.

Both parts are now out of production & both show configuration required on Service Box.

There is a repair service listed on Ebay for these PPT 30 displays that maybe of some use.

I have put an advert on breakerweb for a replacement part, and so far only one yard has one, and that's quite some distance away , the postal charge is more than the cost of the part !! so its either pay their price or hope a yard nearer to me has a 206 in at some stage
Is the wiring loom the same between the units, the 3 bulb units are ten a penny, could I cut and join a black connector into the loom, and use the more numerious 3 bulb type?

3 & 4 are not interchangeable as they are for different wiring systems: non-plex and multiplex ..

All it took with mine was a dab of a soldering iron to re-attached the pins to the circuit board ..

I assume you mean non interchangeable, mine is toast now anyway ,the pcb solder looks to have broken away completely around the plug, the ribbon also looks broken , I noticed that today, when I thought I would have another attempt at it.
still no luck with a replacement, the so even if I can repair the solder, it its not going to work, so its going to have to be live with it, until one comes up when you say some's plexed and not, how do I know what is what is the pp30 non plex? pp40 plex?

I did mean not or non ..

I think it's down to the no of bulbs .. but the newer unit also has two types: simple and multi-line.

If your car has the old trapezoid radio with its own screen, that's pre-plex. The radio remote stalk is also the long thin style.

The multiplex radios are rectagular with the radio display in the mfd. The remote on the steering column is stubby and flatter.

that makes mine multiplex the only radio display information came up on the MFD, I saw one for sale from Holland, but he wanted 85 euro's for it !!
