Expansion bottle cap
I'm still losing a little coolant that comes out of the expsnsion bottle cap.
Yesterday after driving a few miles and stopping at a petrol station to fill up coolant was literally pi$$ing out.
Got home and after letting it cool found the expansion tank nearly empty.
My current thinking is either the fan isn't kicking in or I should have skimmed the head when I had it off.

I'd carry out a cooling system pressure test.
Either the new head gasket is leaking or the head could even be cracked.

Thanks. I was looking at the cheap kits on eBay. Are they any good?

The green one to the back with the red and yellow wire (I think its the coolant temperature sensor).
The brown one in the foreground with the yellow and white wires goes into the housing where the thermostat is. Tbh I sort of expected the green one to be here.
If, with the engine running I pull off the brown plug the fan kicks in. Think I might stop pulling plugs off whilst it's running. Read that it can brick the ECU if done too many times?
I think my fan operation is intermittent. Going to have a look at the relays behind the front grill I've read about that go crusty and play up.

I'll get new ones tomorrow. The "female" connectors are recoverable with some contact cleaner then silicone grease.

Old one has a 390ohm resistor across the coil. Total resistance measured across the coil is 67ohms.
On the new relay there's no resistor apparent. Resistance across the coil is 87ohms.
I need to replace the two fan radiator relays on the wife's old Pug 206. Great idea to put them behind the front grill!

The two aftermarket ones apparently correct, let by. Part number on the back of the original is PA 66 GF 35. Can't seem to find it anywhere! Main dealer maybe?

Had one that was even slightly too big on the thread ID and wouldn't tighten fully.

I even gave it a final run through with rad cleaner followed by flushing then fresh coolant.
The only bug is the coolant still looks rusty. (Not oily in any way). Don't get me wrong it there was a LOT of rust in there so I guess it's still coming loose of the inside of the pipes etc. Be nice to get it a nice see through pink!
Did wonder about periodically sucking what I can get to from the expansion bottle and pouring through filter paper?

And as I replaced both core plugs in the cylinder head most of the coolant is new .. but you never quite get it all out so it turns orange soon after.

Run it up to temperature until the thermostat opens so the whole cooling system gets cleaned.
Drain & refill with 2nd application for really dirty cooling systems.
Drain & refill with correct type coolant for the engine & if possible distilled or deionised water in the correct ratio.
