#1: 206 1.4i Sloppy Gear Lever Author: clicon357, Location: KentPosted: Sun Feb 09, 2020 10:03 am ---- So far down the cash rabbit hole with this old 206 I might as well carry on!
The gear lever on this 1.4i 206 feels "old car" sloppy. Getting into reverse sometimes takes a couple of attempts. Clutch and driveshafts are new. Gearbox oil is new and topped up.
Any thoughts or is there maybe a worn nylon bush under the gaiter that wears.
Cheers.

As for reverse - return the gear lever to neutral, fully release the clutch pedal, wait a couple of seconds then try again.
It's a characteristic of the mid 1980s MA gearbox design.

This has been, on these cars at least, no more than the nut/bolt holding the selector to the gear lever under the car. Check it with the car cold as it's close to the exhaust but this might sort things...
How's the whine thing coming on?

Thanks for that.
Not been able to use the ramp as the owners wife seriously ill and I'd feel a bit guilty asking at the mo. Bearing sitting here waiting. I've in fact got the one you said AND another that says it's for my compressor. So a 50 and a 55mm I think. Both PFS. Was worth the extra tenner so I don't have to do it twice! I'll let you know as soon as it's done.
