#1: 206 cc 1.6 auto fan not working Author: Craig2222, Posted: Thu Jul 15, 2021 9:49 am ---- Hi, car has been sat for 6 months, started to overheat and I noticed the fan wasn't working. I checked coolant and it was dirty brown so I drained and put fresh water in. I have taken it to a garage, they have tried replacing the relay but that hasn't worked. They are now waiting for an auto electrician to have a look. Should they find the problem or is it a case of trying a different part each time ?

The problem turned out to be a common one where the relays in front of the coolant radiator, and just to the side, corrode at their terminals. So bad that some of the wires were disconnected. Went to a scrappy and found decent relays. I cleaned the terminals up then fitted new terminals to the wiring and all was good.
As an aside, if you have aircon, switching it on automatically turns one of the coolant radiator fans on (bypasses all the relays at fault), thus avoiding overheating until you fix the relays.
Hope this helps.

What does your dashboard temp gauge show? If it's gone passed the halfway point it may be worth just replacing the coolant thermostat.
By the way mate, it's handy to type your model, engine type, cc, etc as that then narrows any searching for answers/remedies. Good luck and keep us in the picture.
