#1: Morette headlights, I know! please read before eye rolling! Author: DnB-Nut PostPosted: Sat Mar 26, 2022 11:21 pm

Hello!

Firstly, I’m new, so bare with me whilst I navigate the site!

So, Morette Headlights!

Purchased some used ones for my 2004 “04” GTI 180.

Decided today, after putting new bulbs in, to fit them.

All was going well until I came across the wire problem, where they don’t seem to just plug in and play. So I googled until my fingers fell off.

I signed up here, and I read and I read.

So what I’ve learnt so far is, and I’m hoping you guys can confirm….

My Morette lights have the green relay, which I don’t need to use as I pulled out the grey plug thing from my standard headlights, along with the wire and little black connectors (X2) which I think I have discovered, is called the crystal?

I’ve pulled out the original adjusters (without breaking the ball) and attached them to the Morettes.

Now, the indicators connect straight to the car, as do the side light. As I pulled off that grey bit, that now also fits straight to the car. The little black connectors I am using yellow to yellow. Red to Red, and the black to ground them via a piece of wire not attached to the car. I just stick it in the plastic clip of both black wires.

Tested on wires up like this, and all lights worked.

Didn’t connect the headlight adjuster though.

Does this sound OK so far? Or is this crazy stupid. FYI I’m not mechanically minded whatsoever and stupidly decided to do it, now at the point of no return as both lights off, and destroyed as I removed the grey adaptor things.

Does it need to be connected to the fuse box?
Does it need to be grounded to the car?

Does my wiring sound right?

What I am looking for essentially is a step by step guide, with clear instructions and photos.

Yes, there are some posts with pictures, drawings, but no detailed explanation explaining what’s happening in that photo and why.

Or, even better, is there anyone local to me, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, that could help?

Thank you,

Kev

**EDIT**

Sorted and fitted, thanks for everyone’s help.
