Roadtrip attempt with my 1.4...

So I'm about to do a 700+ mile / 1k+ km roadtrip in a couple of weeks in my 1.4 16v from 2004 (~112k miles)... so tell me..

How f***ed am I?

Guess we'll find out.. I'll update on this thread if I break down, or if not, some pictures of a dodgy 206 in the snowy lake district Very Happy

I've done a bunch of repairs recently to it, full service history and it's kept in a garage, albeit with bad bodywork - so hopefully what I've learned from my efforts saves me if it breaks down..

In the meantime, any funny/not so funny breakdown stories anyone wants to share? I'd like to at least be aware of the many things that could go wrong Laughing

The longest I've driven in a 206 was to Cornwall and back, ~500 miles all round.

A working audio system is a must to compensate for the lack of cruise control:)

And while waiting for your trip updates, I'll be revisiting this VLOG of Peugeot adventures -- for me it honestly beats any well-known TV shows, because these lads don't have a "know-it-all crew van" following behind, but got a welder+mains inverter in their boot instead!:D

My dad has done over 700 mile round trips a few times in the 1.4 8v SW , and I've driven it nearly non-stop on country roads for 6 hours or more at a time. Certainly it rarely misses a beat - I hope the 16v motor is just as capable!
Breakdown wise I had a coil pack fail coming back from the shops - drove back firing on 3... awful!
And a tyre blowout + flat spare on the motorway, mid overtake. That was , something...!
Make sure the handbrake is good and enjoy the snow.... Wink

I'm sure your trip will go great!

Only advice would be to get a full size spare and have a roadside fix kit. Once had to use the spacesaver wheel purely to drive a few miles to a tyre shop to fix the full sized tyre that had gone and that was an awful experience. One £18 used 206 alloy off eBay later and had peace of mind. And got a small bag to help fix any issues you might have on the road with some basic tools, fluids, materials etc and a tyre inflator.

I've taken my 206 to Cornwall and back as well, issue I had was that the clutch was slipping up hills but I took it gently and it's still using that same clutch now, almost 8k miles later lol. Recently done about 700 miles worth of long trips in 3 consecutive days and not a single problem

Thanks guys, she made it! However, oil dipstick was down by a third after 350 miles... So it's burning oil. I've topped up, but surely 250/300ml of oil in 350 miles is not a good sign?

It was 6 hours at 70mph in -0 to -8 temps, but even still? Otherwise, drove perfectly even through a bit of a snowstorm. Pictures to follow once I'm home Sunday.

EDIT: Nevermind here's one from this afternoon, been for a drive through some snowy fells and stopped near a half frozen waterfall. Lovely.
