My son has got a 206 55 plate petrol. Oil change should be easy. But it appears to have got very hot and melted. The filter got stuck to the engine side housing. Upon removal it pulled out something with a spring attached to it. This was fused with the filter during the melting process.
Anyone know what this is called and how to get a new one?
The removable outer housing also got some parts melted to the filter. We have brought a new one of these already.

I assume your particular engine has the "tall" element oil filter type with a plastic "leg" down the middle and a seal at its end.
This very leg is what you might be holding in your photo, albeit I've never seen it with such a rounded "cage" down the bottom -- a very much aftermarket from the previous change?
The springs may be located at either end of the filter, they are part of the metal housing or the plastic cap. Which end up was the spring stick inserted in the housing in your photo?
Other type of element filters have no black stick in the middle, and are shorter in length -- those will also need an adequate plastic cap.
