Oil leak and coolant hose loose

#1: Oil leak and coolant hose loose Author: SA01 PostPosted: Tue Mar 18, 2025 1:28 am

Hi,

First time posting on a forum about car, so apologies if I miss anything when posting.

I have recently bought a Peugeot 206 1.4 HDI. When I bought the car the engine itself looked quite messy. I was told that some spilt oil on it, causing the mess. Test drove it and it felt fine, picked up good and no lights on the dashboard and was cheap. So thought it’d to a good car to try to fix up and learn how to work on cars. It’s got over 130k on the clock.

I recently did an oil change (first time I’ve ever done one). Yesterday I decided to check the oil level while cleaning the car and noticed it was practically empty. There have been a few drops of oil here and there since I bought the car, but nothing significant enough to account for such low level of oil. Also, there appears to be oil all over the front of the engine. It looks old and gunky, so I don’t think it’s the new oil I put in.

Other than that, I noticed that the hose leading to the lower part of the radiator is loose (I can move it in and out). There seems to be a lot of oil in that area. Can this be related in any way to the loss of oil in any way? How is the connection for the hose supposed to be secured so it doesn’t move freely?

I’ve added a pictures but I’m not sure how well they will show the mess on the engine.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
