#1: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Mrs_Howey, Location: WorthingPosted: Sun Apr 25, 2010 8:19 am ---- Me and Howey borrowed some money off my lovely mummy to buy a new project
It's a 1991 (year i was born) 205 1.6GTI in white.
It's been in a small accident and needs a new bumper, indicator, plastic arch trim and a bit of rust which needs a plate welding on to.
Needs it's head gasket doing but still runs.
Needs the repair on the front seat and rear as it has a rip in the fabric
But other than that it is wondeful, Heres a few pictures of the damage and how she looks.
Enjoy
Howey gave her a clean:

I've seen some dirt cheep 205GTis about recently, but some really pricey ones too. How much did you pay?

#12: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Sun Apr 25, 2010 9:18 am ---- Pepperpots are poo and will be on there over my dead body! haha!
It is staying completely standard and the aim is to turn it into a concours vehicle!
Luke: we havent had chance to inspect the head yet and we paid £560 for it including brand new unfitted clutch and oil filter. It also has a fair amount of service history too! Only failing on washerjets in october

From what I've heard a good 1.6 will have no problem keeping up with an average 1.9. Ed's 1.6 was certainly nippy!
If you want to make it concours and win any competitions I've stick with the 14" Pepperpots
#25: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: colinn, Location: IpswichPosted: Mon Apr 26, 2010 5:58 am ---- you may already have this but there's a useful 205 gti spec. sheet here:

So would I but I suppose myself and G of all people might be a tad anal when it comes to things like that. Have 2 sets of wheels? Pepperpots are cheap as chips anyway. I think it would look pretty damn cool with them too anyway.
1.6's can keep up with 1.9's as i experienced yesterday

Ill have a word and get back to you on what hes got etc.
#31: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Mon Apr 26, 2010 3:59 pm ---- nope. it's not like having vortex's and nimrods as a second set which would cost like £600-700 for two decent sets lol.
Went down to Peugeot today to get quotes for various items...
Rocker cover gasket: £13.32
Headgasket: £34.20
Exhaust manifold gaskets (x4): £11.37 for the four
Cambelt kit: £74.07
Water pump: £80.64
Is there anything else we should be buying and are these decent prices?
I know we want to do it as cheaply as possible but neither of us like to skimp on quality when it comes to important repairs
So are genuine parts the best or are parts from GSF or Eurocarparts gonna be the best/ same standard??
And a couple more pics!

Whats the replacement panel called?
Head bolts arrived today as well... gonna crack on on saturday now!
Indicator and headbolts are here now, just tensioner, front bumper and associated clips to buy now
#68: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: EdCherry, Location: WiltshirePosted: Tue Jul 06, 2010 4:02 pm ---- Headlamp panel is the replacement part name, with the bottom bar between each side being a cross member.
Think it only costs like £100.
It wont be structural unless its gone a far way back towards the strut tops. Just cut out and plate the areas if its rusted on the chassis rail near the front.

Just spent about £250 on parts for mine ..
distributor cap, rotor arms, HT leads, spark plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, cambelt kit, coil pack, radiator, water pump, radio blanking plate.
Having a service next Tuesday, so will see if there's any more bits.

Found this on the first page of searching for: head gasket change in the XU Engine & Gearbox Service and Maintenance only from 2006 onwards....and there's 23 pages of results
As far as i'm aware it's a proper cooooooont of a job. Have you posted up on 205drivers/psooc to see if there's someone who lives near you who can lend you a hand for some beer tokens?

#97: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:26 am ---- Right, finally an update
Been out today and started to get stuck in.... we have the inlet manifold off now and G has just gone off to get a T55 for the headbolts.
If we can get the head off today then it will be a success!
#98: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Brian, Location: VVT Land, FifePosted: Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:30 am ---- Bit by bit is the way forward. You'll want to cover the block and head some-how whilst the head is off to stop water getting into it! Clingfilm might do the job nicely.

#104: Re: The Howey's Project White Retro Classic Author: Mrs_Howey, Location: WorthingPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:26 am ---- Nope head still isn't off once we started removing parts, we realised that she needs more work doing to her than first thought.
At the moment she stands with no front end, everything removed but the engine.
End of this month we are getting a mass load of parts including 3 1.6 engines, so plan is most likely now to be to do a swop on the engine and rebuild the one which is in it on a stand.
Soo are small little project has pretty much become a complete restoration project.
We need to get out and get some more pictures of our updates, just been really busy, i'm hoping once i finish uni at the end may/ begin of june, i'm going to have more time to work on her, but we haven't got an end date yet.
