#13: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: pudmonkey, Location: EdinburghPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:23 am ---- Was following this project on Coupe-Club.co.uk when i had my F7R, looks amazing. You planning selling up and getting a 206 Shanukes??
#14: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:26 am ---- Alrite i was meant to keep this under wraps but i didnt want to fall bk on the log and forget things...during the summer the car was once again SORN'ed, reason being i felt the car needed to go a different direction, so out comes the tools and i started to strip the car....the white wheels were sold to "Baby j" and the car went back on standards.....
and finally put back in the garage.
Plan was to take this out in the summer but with horrid weather and me being away i had no time so this is what is next on the cards.....the plan is to remove the engine, exhaust etc, then the underside/wheel arches will be prept, sanded down, etc and treated with anti-rust and sprayed over in black......after this the car is going for a whole new respray, a colour on which i havent decided as of yet. Regarding the interior, depending on which colour i choose for the exterior the seats will be retrimmed to match the paint colour Regarding the wheels, still in the process of choosing.....will update this once the engine is out
#15: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:27 am ---- Came back home last night, pulled out the car this morning. Was abit mouldy inside and the tyres were all down
Need to go and speak to my sprayer tonight and put my ideas across to him. So just pulled Ice Maiden back in the garage...
New leather:
All my badges came also my coilover suspension has been seized on for a while now so required replacement threads and rings from Ktec....they gave me one free and had to pay £35 for the other one....which i was pleased about.....now trying to get front seats off today but weather pretty crappy so hopefully during the week
I took a trip down to Lidls today and saw this storage compartment, just £3.90....came home and mounted it on my leather i bought a few weeks back. Basically i found a piece of wood and cut it into the dimensions i wanted them in...seen as the rear seats fold down and divide into 2 i had to cut the wood....then i un-zipped the back cloth on the leather and placed the 2 pieces of wood in its correct position underneath the cloth. Once done i measured up where the buttons go and screwed them into the wood and zipped the rear cloth back up....that way its secure. Heres how it turned out, very pleased
You can add alot of items inside:
Seen as the bumpers were off i thought i should have a go at restoring behind the bumpers...sanded it down then primered twice....then with a fine paint brush used Black Hammerite, came out well...only did the front end but will crack on with the rear when the weather is better
Before:
After:
And also added the FCS 09 Sticker
Started stripping the suspension as my coilovers were seized, Leigh took them off and put the replacements on, then i noticed the rust in the arces so i told him to stop the work so i can treat the rust like i did behind the front bumper....its taking me a long time to sand down the arches also i decided to do under the car aswel as the main beam was rusted
Work now is to finish the arches and get the coilies back on then off for painting
Both front arches finished off today, also did the front cross member (basically under the engine) and lastly did the rear. Very pleased with the work, esp on the arches
Rear arches completed today also built the front end back up..Coilovers also added
Got some paint on the lip but thats being cut out as the arches are being repainted due to some rust issues as when i was running my 18s the wheels touched the lip and broke the seal, and then started to rust so have asked to cut the lip out either side and re-painted
Also got my car in next months Performance French Magazine
#16: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: Rich196, Posted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:29 am ---- looks good mate nice car
#17: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:30 am ---- got new wheels for the car, Schmidt Modern-Lines, also i slammed the coilovers all the way down on the front
#18: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:31 am ---- so i sanded, primered and black hammerited the boot today, also stripped all the seats out....
Now just saving up for the respray
#19: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:32 am ---- These were delievered this morning 25mm hubcentric spacers for the rear....
Got some pictures at last, been raining all day so thought id just do it in the garage....
The wheels are quite tight against the lip of the arch but thats going to be bent back and sorted
#20: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:32 am ---- The car had a full underbody (arches/chassis) sealent with waxoyl this morning
#21: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:33 am ---- I decided to get some better pictures of the car with the rear 25mm spacers on....
It is tight against the lip of the arches but this lip will be bent back so there will be plenty of room
#22: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed May 19, 2010 7:33 am ---- so went up today to measure the wheels against the arches (seen as they were rubbing up against with the 25mm spacers on). The area that was cut was marked out and removed. He then smoothened off the ends so that there was no sharp edges, then added Kurust and will leave it be for a couple of hours before its prept. He said he is going to add some rubber sealant around the edge of the arch (same thats used on the rear inside arches so that they will never rust). I know the car has been down the bodyshop since October and progress doesn't seem to be much, but he has had loads of work on and his mother in law passed away recently so i couldn't exactly hurry him along. Hopefully should be ready for the FCS, if not then its no problem as im no hurry tbh
Im glad i went up to see the job, as i can now apply the same method on the other black Coupe i have in my garage to remove that superficial rust on the arches now

#31: Re: Renault Megane Coupe 2.0 16v F7R Author: shanukes, Location: Haverfordwest West WalesPosted: Wed Sep 22, 2010 4:06 pm ---- And now i introduce you Phoenix! Following mods were done to the car during the last 9 months:
Full new respray in Morello Red (new shape Ford Fiesta colour)
Satin black roof with a hint of blue tinge
Roof rails sprayed black
Black smaller diamond mesh for front end
Chrome side repeaters
Both rear arches were cut about 5mm around the edge and rust proofed (so that 25mm spacers wont cause tyres to rub on arches)
Ariel / Rear jet washer / Badges removed and smoothed
Front bottom bumper line smoothed
Front bumper fogs removed and smoothed
Rear bottom bumper line smoothed
Rear boot button circle (where key is inserted) flushed in
Front dash sprayed black
Battery compartment & under scuttle panel rust proofed and sprayed
All black plastics exterior wise sprayed black
GB pressed number plates
Bosch Aero-wipers
Richbrook sills
Richbrook Handbrake cover and gaiter
Gearknob gaiter
OMP Boss kit
After market steering wheel
LED rear number plate bulbs
Chrome Dial rings
New splitter from Renault
Two tone snail disc air horns (pair)
The paint wasn't crystal clean when the car came back from the bodyshop so i hired a professional detailor to machine polish the car to get rid of any light scratches or swirls that were caused by the bodyshop buffering after the respray. I was very happy with the result
The car looks black in the pictures as the sun had gone down, but i will get some better pictures (including the new steering wheel and black dash) in the sun in the week to show the real colour
All opinions good and bad welcome.
