Hey guys, i am currently in the market for a new backbox for my 54 plate HDI and there are a few options in which i have been thinking about choosing and would appreciate advice and opinions on these.

1) just replace the exisiting backbox with a standard one which has a 4" oval tailpipe and chrome tip. Looking around 75quid inc fitting

2) Have a standard backbox same as described above but in stainless steel. or possibly cat back

3) have a custom backbox fitted in stainless steel which gives a twin exhaust tailpipe appearance like the 180 but only 2.5" round pipes instead of the 3.5" as the groove in the bumper is smaller.

Looking forward to your comments Smile
Cheers

Mark

1) or maybe 2) if it's not much more.

That'd be my choice anyway, can't see the point of the expense of the custom job. Seriously, as long as the backbox isn't one of those el cheapo that boxes that hang off the back like an oil drum (as often seen on Clios around here for some reason...), it'll do the same job, look decent and give you money for stuff. Like beer.

Ye i no what you mean mate, thats the thing holding me back from the custom job because i have been quoted 170quid for a custom stainless backbox whereas a direct replacement one as a standard is 75quid. Im undecided lol Confused

My back box needed replacing last month and when I was looking at the options, like Scorpion etc, I asked myself how much is the car worth and what % is the new back box compared to that? For me it'd be over 10%, and that's for something that does sweet FA other than "look" nicer (which is very subjective anyway) and sounds "sporty". On a 7 year old 1.4 it doesn't really cut it, so why pretend? I got a chrome tip back box (from the CC I believe) including delivery, clamp and new rubber mounts for a kick in the a**e off £50 and fit it myself.

Basically, a car is a depreciating asset it won't add value you just need it to look nice and do the job. Mind you, I'm an old fart compared to most on here!

Does anyone have a custom exhaust fitted which replicates the 180 or no anyone who has on here for some pics. Im not sure whether 2.5" round pipes will look too small compared to the usual 3.5" they are standard on a 180

Have you considered Longlife.co.uk? Might be worth getting a quote from them.

I recently got a Stainless Steel cat back exhaust with a 3" slash cut incurl tip for £279 inc vat and fitting.

I know that's not what you're after, but should show you how low their prices are.

Have a look through my post here -> LINK

I can remember a while ago reading through your post on here and thats what made me get a quote from longlife exhausts but it turned out alot more expensive than i want to be paying. Emailed a couple of places near me about prices just waiting to hear back from them. I think you have the sports bumper same as me and the problem i have got is that i dont no whether a reduction in size from 3.5" to 2.5" will look too small in that recess.

Hmm that's surprising.

Well I can't remember what mine was before, I think it was either 2" or 2.5" - here is a pic of the old exhaust.

Thanks for that Quarmbo i have had a look but unfortunately they are 3" so i still cant see whether a 2.5" looks too small. Do you no any other cars which may have a 2.5" twin pipe? Struggling to find any tbh :/
