Hi all.

Just want some 3rd party opinions on something..

A friend of mine has just become the lucky owner of a 51 plate 206 1.4 LX.

She bought it from a non peugeot dealership 2nd hand and within weeks the head gasket has gone.

She has taken it back to the garage, and after attempts to fob her off by saying that it "needs to just be topped up with water" the garage finaly agreed to have the headgasket replaced.
At the time of the agreement, the garage offered to do the Cam belt at the same time, which she agreed to have done (mileage presently 58K), but this has not been done.

Now that the headgasket has been changed, the garage are now trying to get her to sign a peice of paper saying that they will not accept any responsible for damage to the engine because the cam belt has not been changed.

here is the question:The garage tried telling her that the head needs to be removed again to do the the cam belt - is this correct??

They are asking for £400 to remove the head again and replace the cam belt!!!!

The head does not have to come off to change the cambelt.

The cylinder head does not need to be removed at all, only takes an hour or two to do on 8 valve TU engines

So labour (£30 per hour) x 2 = £60 + cambelt kit (£70) = £130?

I've done a couple of these and have never removed the head. Is she local? Couldn't you go in and set him straight? Hell, if you're local to me I'll go in, hate people that try to rip others off

I would be going to trading standards because the garage has put the engine in danger of major malfunction by re-using the old cam belt. Take the car back. Tell her NOT TO SIGN ANYTHING.
