i got a 1.6 glx, and my gearbox has just gone bang!!
the thing is i'm due to start a new job and moneys tight at the mo.
the only box i can get my hands on at such short notice by pulling in favours is a gearbox from a 1.1.
i know the gearing will be all wrong but i'm not worried about that for a bit, the question is........will it fit straight in??
just to get me out of the s*!£.

I would imagine the clutch assembly will be different for a start.

It depends if the clutch plates of a 1.1 and a 1.6 are exactly the same, i would be surprised if the spigot shaft diameter/splines of the 1.1 is the same as the 1.6 which, if different, means the 1.6 clutch will not be compatible with the 1.1 gearbox. You would then need to fit a 1.1 clutch which would not be strong enough to take the power of a 1.6 engine.
In other words........wait 'till a 1.6 gearbox turns up!
