Soo, as many of you know my car has been making a whining noise for a while, i thought it was the power steering pump but after having it changed last night, it hasn't fixed my problem 
Has anyone got any other ideas what would make it whine???
the noise increase when i accelerate and decreases when decelerating, and at 50mph it stops.
This noise is driving me mad, i need to fix it.
Ideas??

Sounds like a bad earth to me, does it almost sound like a turbo whistle?
Years ago my mate managed to convince the whole 6th form (Apart from these with common sence) that his 1.3 Mazda 323 was a quad turbo

Whining or whirring noise?
Mine made a whirring noise, sounded like a cable tie rubbing on my tires, and the noise was only there at certain revs.
Turns out it was the timing belt.

if your gearbox oil is seperate to the engine oil could just mean your running low on oil in the box

Maybe the 17's are taking their toll on the gearbox, as others suggested.

sounds like the bearings in the diff like on my old 206. can you pinpoint the area the noise is coming from when driving or determine an area?

mine did this few months back, it turned out to be air compressor pump but could be few other things

Mine was the same as 
Remove the aux belt and see if the noise goes away.
